How long will it be until we see a hydrogen based energy sector? Who
knows, maybe never. Or maybe within 10 or 20 years, depending.
Storage seems to be a little difficult, and transporting all that
bulk. Also, if the final purpose is to convert or reconvert the
energy into electricity, maybe other carriers (ie batteries) might be
more appropriate. Or there may be other carriers. For instance,

Sorbers may play a role in compact H2 storage as I've also proposed: a "Russian Doll Sorber" that locks-in microbubbles in gels solved in micro-celled flexible plastic flameproof foams in collapsible tanks before they get chance to expand and create container pressure as gas looks promising as described in:-
