Electricity is surely the supreme resource.  I've been working and haven't had time to jot down all my thoughts but one idea I can't seem to shake is how we should put power in our roads, especially the most heavily traveled roads.  Cars could be electric, powered by the grid they are on, tightly and evenly spaced trains of intercommunicating vehicles traveling the same speed catching the draft from the lead car to the end and thereby defeating the greatest drag, if you will, on driving.  Of course, I am thinking about major roadways.  Too bad we can't afford vacuum sealed Plexiglas tunnels, get rid of drag altogether, but then what would happen if somebody's window cracked?  Anyway, back to a real possibility, and one that will probably happen sooner or later, cars should be able to plug onto a third rail, perhaps they should be enabled to electromagnetically hover just over the rail.  Electromagnets might be able to buffer the cars from each other at a specific distance, or maybe electromagnets could control linking and unlinking the cars.  They would need to be centrally controlled so there is no driver who has to make the correct decisions, they should all be made.  Once you join the train you're there until your scheduled to leave (unless the schedule changes) as would be monitored and scheduled by the central system.  They could probably travel at 2 or 300 mph, but they could just as easily do 40.  The power consumption and system use of each vehicle would be monitored and metered and each vehicle could also contribute to the locomotion, or a locomotive could pull the train.

Nick, and everyone else:
Whenever anyone posts to "economa...@googlegroups.com" it goes to everyone.
The way you receive a post depends on your settings, in this case the best setting - the only reasonable setting - is to get every email.  If we had a lot more activity you could get delivery once a day or so.
