Dear all,

sharing a new open access paper in World Development that will be relevant for some folks on this list.

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.worlddev.2025.106958

Bainton, N., et al. (2025). "Compound exposure: Climate change, vulnerability and the energy-extractives nexus in the Pacific." World Development 190: 106958.

It builds on some of the excellent work on energy transition metals (ETMs) developed out of the Sustainable Minerals Institute at UQ. A few highlights:

  • We've established a dataset of 163 ETM projects in the Pacific, which we then compare with the global dataset of some 5000+ ETM projects.
  • We develop the concept of compound exposure, and use the dataset to characterise this idea.

Kind regards, Nick
