Dear ECOCORE team.

Some colleagues and I are currently working on an ontology of soil trophic webs that would make it possible to automate the creation of food webs.
This mainly consists in creating mappings between diets/trophic groups and consumed resources, so that one can be inferred from the other.
Our ontology reuse many concepts from ECOCORE (all the classes related to trophic groups, e.g. fungivore, carnivore, etc.) and some from other OBO ontologies (mainly for resources),
and so we were wondering if you would be interested in integrating newly defined concepts (e.g. missing trophic groups) and mappings from our ontology in ECOCORE ?

Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress and that we are reaching you out during the early stage of the project to know if this is something you would be interested in.

Best regards.

Nicolas

Hi Anne.

Glad to hear you are interested in our work.

What is the best way to proceed ?

We plan to work with some experts of soil ecology to create a first version of the soil trophic web ontology.
Do the ECOCORE team prefers to be included in this group, or to consider the integration of the new concepts once the first version is ready?

Nicolas

I suspect that we should be included in the group, at least at first. That person would be me.
Thanks!

Hi all

This sounds great

As always, I have some concerns about modularity and rational ways of subdividing concepts across authorities and ontologies, minimizing reciprocal dependencies etc

What would go in a soil trophic ontology that would not go in a non-soil trophic ontology?

what is the dividing line between ecocore and the trophic ontology? ecocore already has *troph and *vore terms
