Simplify your Summer & Enjoy Fresh Produce Delivered Direct to SJSU
J&P Organics delivers delicious, farm-fresh, organic fruits and vegetables to SJSU every Tuesday. J&P, a small family farm located just outside of Salinas, has been providing amazing produce weekly to the SJSU community for over 2 years! (One of our Sustainability team members has visited the farm and met JP and his family and says, “They are really nice people and grow the most amazing strawberries. Seriously yummy.”)
This Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is unique—you order and pay for boxes ONLY on the weeks your choose—no sign-up fees and no obligations. Here’s how the program works: Go to http://www.jporganics.com/csa.php and create a member account sign. Make sure you check the SJSU as your pick-up location (or choose another one that may be more convenient for you). After signing up, you will receive an email each Friday telling you what the next week’s box will contain and pick-up details. Please contact Marjorie...@sjsu.edu for additional information.
Green Ninja
Green Ninja comes to the rescue, confronting serious environmental issues with style - his eyes even match his green superhero bodysuit! From targeting skyrocketing carbon footprints to putting a twist on the age old question of paper vs. plastic, the Green Ninja puts a fun and accessible spin on “doing the right thing.” The project, a collaboration between SJSU faculty, staff, and students, is truly multidisciplinary. Faculty advisors include Eugene Cordero (Meteorology and Climate Science), David Chai & Babak Sarrafan (Television, Radio, Film, Theatre, Animation and Illustration), and Barnaby Dallas & Nick Martinez (Spartan Film Studios). With 5 episodes currently available online, the project will be bringing the Green Ninja to the greater San Jose community through a Community Energy Champions grant from Silicon Valley Energy Watch.
AASHE STARS Update & Access to Members-Only Resources
SJSU has finished collecting data and has submitted our final report to AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) for the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). Currently the report is being verified by the AASHE staff and we are anxiously awaiting our final rating! Keep your eye on the Sustainability website (www.sjsu.edu/sustainability) for updates, including a list of sustainability-related courses that are offered at SJSU. Go Green Spartans!
As a AASHE member institution, anyone from SJSU may sign up for an account with AASHE to receive member discounts and access member-only pages on their website. This includes access to their online Resource Center, discounts for the annual AASHE and Bioneers conferences, newsletters, and professional networking opportunities. To create an account, go to www.aashe.org/user/register and complete the user profile using your campus issued email address that ends in sjsu.edu.
