Dear all,

Selamat Natal dan selamat tahun baru untuk semua.

 

Saya sedang membaca buku Good to Great dari Jim Collins (www.jimcollins.com) yang mengadakan riset 5 tahun untuk berbagai perusahaan untuk menemukan faktor apa saja yang membuat suatu lembaga maju.

 

Katanya banyak lembaga tidak maju karena sudah  merasa baik. Hal ini berlaku juga untuk lembaga sosial nonprofit. Antara lain Jim Collins menulis bahwa untuk jadi “great” untuk social sectors perlu beberapa hal :

1.       Discipled People : Leaders display a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will. They have the fierce resolve to do whatever it takes to fulfill the vision of their organization. They make sure to have the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the key seats.

2.       Disciplines Thought : They will retain an unwavering faith that they can and will prevail in the end regardless of the difficulties and have the discipline to confront thier current reality whatever they might be. They have a consistent and coherent understanding of three intersecting circles : what you can be the best in the world at, what you are deeply passionate about and what the best drives your economic or resource engine.

3.       Disciplined Action : discipline people who engaged in disciplined thought and who take disciplined action operating with freedom within a framework of responsibilities. In a culture of disciplie, people do not have jobs, they have responsibilities. No single action. No grand program. Rather the process resembles relentlessly pushing a giant, heavy flywhell in one direction, turn upon turn, building a momentum until a point of breakthrough, and beyond.

4.       Multiple generations of leaders : truly great organizations prosper thorugh multiple generations of leaders, do not depend on a charismatic personality, a single leader, a great idea or program.

5.       Preserve the core and stimulate progress : they have a set of timeless core values over long perios of time and at the same time a relentless drive for change and progress to adapt to a changing world.
