iNaturalist & City Nature Challenge Introductory Workshop

Saturday, April 11th, 2026, 1pm-2:30pm

Free Online Registration: https://www.mobilize.us/audubon-southwest/event/902981/

Ever wonder what types of plants, butterflies, or birds are found in your yard? Want to explore the biodiversity of Santa Fe, your local neighborhood, and the rest of the globe? Join us for one of our upcoming workshops to learn how to use the incredible powers of the iNaturalist app and how to get involved with the global City Nature Challenge

Local naturalists, Dave Eslinger and Michael Carr, will teach participants the ins and outs of using the iNaturalist and Seek apps, including their identification and community science functions. Then, we’ll head outside to the garden to practice using the app and identifying some of the local species that we find! By the end of this workshop, registrants will be ready to join the City Nature Challenge, held remotely on April 24-27.

About the Speaker Dave Eslinger is retired Oceanographer who has recently moved to Santa Fe.  He is an avid birder and a South Carolina Statewide master Naturalist.  He's been using iNaturalist since 2021 to document and identify what he finds in the field, and recently joined the initial group of iNaturalist Ambassadors, to promote more and better use of iNaturalist.
