Greetings,
I am an Outdoor Recreation Planner with the National Park Service, Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (NPS-RTCA) in the Intermountain Region primarily serving New Mexico. The NPS-RTCA program in our region serves communities in Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Learn more about the program here: Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)
RTCA's Strategic Focus Areas:
Building healthy communities, through parks, trails, and outdoor, opportunities
Conserving natural lands, rivers, and watersheds
Engaging youth in outdoor recreation and stewardship
Strengthening the organizational capacity of project partners
Connecting and collaborating with national parks
We are currently collaborating with Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps(ALCC) to hire an RTCA Indigenous Communities Project Fellow Santa Fe, NM. This fellowship is a meaningful endeavor to help the National Park Service better engage and collaborate with indigenous and underrepresented communities in New Mexico and Oklahoma. Specifically, these outreach efforts are part of NPS' mission statement to "extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country." The NPS-Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance program is tasked with accomplishing this portion of the NPS mission. The Communities Project Fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with NPS-RTCA supervisors on several projects related to outdoor recreation and conservation.
The fellow will have an opportunity to gain experience in the areas below and will be always supported by staff project manager(s) and the Indigenous Communities Project Manager throughout the fellowship period.

Aside from the professional opportunities provided by this fellowship, the selected fellow will have an opportunity to be mentored by NPS staff, build a network, and will be supported to develop their own interests and creativity in the field of conservation and outdoor recreation. RTCA is a multidisciplinary program that allows for multiple learning opportunities allowing growth in a diverse set of areas within the fields of conservation and outdoor recreation.
The fellow does not need to have a bachelor's in outdoor recreation and conservation, but real-life experience and a strong interest in the fields are encouraged. This fellowship can be suitable for people interested art, communications, planning, landscape architecture, history, social justice, climate change, public health, natural disasters, and other.
As their supervisor, I am committed to make sure that the selected fellow feels safe and heard throughout the time period of the fellowship and most importantly that they have a good experience.
