Dear friends,

As you all might know, Ecuador was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday April 16th. It has been classified as one of the most lethal earthquakes to hit Latin America in the last twenty years. Like any disaster to hit a nation, the damage and destruction is irreparable. With thousands of people displaced, with no electricity, shelter and low on resources.

I see the world as a place in which we treat all of us as a supporting family during the difficult time. Because of that, I have been hesitating sending this email as I know the degree of mobilization from myself should be equal in any tragedy, I apologize for that. I have to admit though, this tragedy really hits home because I know the people affected and I have been in the places where it occurred. Because of that i´m asking you for your support.

The display of national and international solidarity has been overwhelming and has lifted our broken spirits. It really shows that unified people when working together are the most powerful force. It has been an amazing lesson for me of incredible human agency that overcomes difficulties.

I was informed that the Ecuadorian Consulate is organizing a direct flight from Montreal with donations. For anyone in Montreal, the Ecuadorian Consulate (address: 2055 rue Peel, office 601. Montreal, QC. H3A1V4) is receiving donations and will be in charge of ensuring these products reach Ecuador. If you can´t take them there, let me know and I would go pick them up from you. They will be receiving donations until the 23th of April.

They are collecting products of the following categories:

Canned/Dry Foods
Tents
Sleeping bags
Hygiene/First Aid kits
Portable Lights sources (flashlight, lamps etc)
Batteries
Baby essentials (Diapers, food formula etc)
Utensils

For those who are unable to donate in goods, there are several other trusted options for monetary contributions:

Option 1:

Entity: Bank of América NY

SWIFT Code: BOFAUS3N

Account name: “CCU SECRETARIA GESTIÓN RIESGOS/PLANTA CENTRAL”

Account number: 01121807

Option 2:

Thank you so much in advance!

Diana
