Global Warming Research Paper: Rough Draft
Although it is argued by the world whether Global Warming is either real or a myth, there are still various outcomes to both in positive and negative ways. Global Warming has caught the interest and passion of many, from politicians to the regular working man, all of them having their own opinions and arguments. While going about and looking through the minds of others through the internet on the subject, it left me wondering, what will really happen to this world that we live in based on action or inaction to this factual or mythical global topic?
If Global Warming is in fact real and we do not take any action at all the outcomes will be extremely scarce politically. According to Derek Markham, “ Fossil fuel burning and power plants across the world create high carbon dioxide emissions, and in the U.S. 40% of CO2 emissions come from electricity production, while burning coal accounts for 93% of emissions from the electric utility industry”. With Americans being reliant and attached to their electricity, which is made from burning coal, it is hard break the habit and now needs of our culture. With the population growing at a never before seen rate, there is an alarming demand for more cars, which are the cause for 33% of emissions in the U.S. (Markham), and consumer goods. Switching to biofuels and solar powered electricity can benefit in interest towards the government when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions along with many other things. Without finding alternatives for fuel and electricity, the percentage of carbon dioxide emissions that go into our atmosphere will continue raising.
On the other hand, if Global warming is factual and there are actions taken to cease it, our economy will thrive. Floods, wildfires, droughts, sea-level rise, and extreme storms will contribute to damaging property and infrastructure unless actions are taken, than the time, money, and devastation towards extensive repair of essential infrastructure such as homes, roads, bridges, power lines, dams, levees, and seawalls will not have to be experienced. Harmful losses in productivity due to climate change such as when extreme heat curtails construction, or when more potent allergens and air pollution lead to lost work and school days, along with effecting transportation, agriculture, and energy production. If societies find ways to prepare for and cope with some climate impacts—provided that we do not let our carbon emissions continue unabated, these unwanted experiences would be avoided according to The Union of Concerned Scientists.
Finally, if Global Warming turns out to be a myth and we still decide to take action there could be costs. According to the PIPA poll in June 2005 Americans were asked which position was closest to theirs. Only 23% said “efforts in the United States to reduce the release of greenhouse gases will cost too much money and hurt the US economy.” Instead, 71% said that “the US economy will become more competitive because these efforts will result in more efficient energy use, saving money in the long run.” So in fact, the majority of Americans at the time believed that reducing greenhouse gasses would be economically beneficial in the long run. Although there may be costs regarding taking action towards Global Warming most Americans find it to be better safe than sorry when it comes to spending money on a cause that may or may not affect the Earth’s future.
After researching many different opinions and ideas on the subject of Global Warming, I found that the most likely outcome would If Global Warming is real and we do not take action on the point that the world is so obsessed with their addiction to objects and things that run and use high carbon emission fossil fuel and electricity. Looking at the different scenarios and outcomes is always helpful when it comes to such a globally debated topic such as Global Warming.Your article looks very professional. You did the good job in information searching. The source you used is correct and definitely supports what you want to prove. The article structure and mainline is clear. The point of view you explain is also quite clear and your article structure is also good. I believe you will get a great grade.
Great Job. Formated correctly. You have provide good supporting information, and good use of lead-ins. Good use of citations, and you stayed objective in your research. I do trhink that your thoughts on global warming needs more elaboration. I like your fourth paragraph, " Although there may be costs regarding taking action towards Global Warming most Americans find it to be better safe than sorry when it comes to spending money on a cause that may or may not affect the Earth’s future".
