Unit 15: Decisions... Decisions...
Global warming is an ongoing topic of our time. Everywhere scientists and environmentalists are speculating on abrupt climate change and global warming. Concerns are arising whether global warming is an anthropogenic or natural cycle. In the following scenarios we will explore this very issue.
Global warming is a ticking bomb it has dire effects on the environment as well as on the economy. If the prediction on global warming are actually taking place and we take action, it will bring greater good to the economy, new jobs will be available, slowly CO2 levels will decrease. These changes have to be made according to Dr. Peter Tsigaris an economist at Thompson Rivers University says “that taking steps to curb global warming makes sense from both an environmental and an economic standpoint.” (Thompson Rivers University). Tsigaris estimated that it would cost one percent of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per year by using less fossil fuels and change our living behaviors. These changes will effect not only the global warming but also will create new jobs and healthier living life style. Scientists at (ucsusa) have a set of smart solutions in order to reduce emissions is to invest in clean energy such as solar powers, increasing vehicle fuel offence, these are just few steps man kind can take to challenge global warming.
Global warming is a threat as the cigarettes to our health. It’s a dilemma if neglected a great catastrophe could be devastating for the future. The new 2013 Fifth Assessment Report from IPCC aforementioned that scientists are 95 percent certain humans have caused most of the warming of the planets surface since 1950s up to today (NASA). Today, effects of global warming are already having a costly effect on our climate, environment, government, droughts, floods and health says Union of Concerned Scientists (UNC). After math of Hurricanes like Katrina has a cost of about $150 billion. Today CO2 levels have been rising due to the greenhouse gases further more the ice sheets of Antarctic have been melting for over 20 years. Destruction will continue to if the global warming is unheeded. The rising concerns of global warming is not hitting everyone in the public only 40 percent believe that global warming is a natural cycle other percent believe it’s a anthropogenic.
If predictions of global warming is not anthropogenic and U.N deliberates on it a great amount of hardship the economy will have to endure. Billions of dollars the research, scientists will consume, on research that is deceiving. According to Harlen Watson the cost of research on global warming is roughly US $23 billion dollars from 1990 to 2004 alone. If research is ongoing for the future and global warming still did not take effect as predicted by scientist all that cost will raise taxes, GDP, and effect of this rise will be down fall of the future.
Wasting tremendous amount of dollars on uncertainty, it is best to invest in clean energy and health weather global warming happens or not, weather it’s a natural cycle. It will benefit everything around.
