Hi all,
I did quite a number of tests using a 1.5 ltr plastic water bottle for irrigation. So far the best result I achieved was by putting two small holes in the bottom of the bottle. In each hole I inserted a 30cm length of cotton string . I used water resistant sealant to make the holes even smaller. I then dug in the bottle next to a plant and filled it with water (only up to the level that's submerged in the hole).
The cotton string acts as a conduit by absorbing the water from the bottle all the way to the end of the string which I placed around the roots of the plant. The roots then absorb the slowly released water. The bottle can be easily refilled. I keep the lid on the bottle to avoid sand etc getting into the bottle.
Does anyone have any other method to successfully use 1.5 ltr plastic water bottles for
irrigation?
