Hi folks,

I've been inspired to hack some more on ecmanomic lately, but I really
need someone else to play along. I can't push my own proposals
through without violating the metarules, and I really would like
someone to test out my new features / apis and tell me if they are any
good at all!

I want to improve the interface a lot -- to make testing and voting on
proposals dead easy, and to make authoring new proposals as easy as
possible. I'm looking at projects like rietveld, gerrit, bespin, etc.
as examples for pretty compelling JS interfaces for developing and
reviewing code. With HTML 5 and the release of Chrome for linux and
the associated boost to other browsers' javascript engines, I am
really optimistic about where this game could go. There's even a
plugin that lets you do 3d graphics from javascript -- I would love to
see ecmanomic grow into something like Second Life!

But I can't do it alone.... :~(

Me and my mate wanted to play this but it's so confusing. We don't get
it. At all. What's the point? Do we have to approve ourselves? The
interface really sucks too, it's like something from 1989

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for giving it a shot.  Did you see the "getting started" page at http://groups.google.com/group/ecmanomic/web/getting-started ?  Specifically, the sections on "how do I sign up", "how do I play", and "this web interface sucks".  :)

Cheers

Hi Adam

Yeah we read the docs and we know javascript pretty well. But the way
the game is organised is pretty weird, like do we have to approve
ourselves or what? How can we make a proposal if we're not approved.
If we have to beat the sandbox or something then that's fine but we
didn't know. We thought we had to be approved first before we could
join the fun

Cheers

You have to create your own adduser proposal, then activate it once it has enough votes (at least half the active players).

OK, I see that the ecmanomic game is not sticky enough, so I have
proposed to restart the Pirate subgame, which geoffspear and ifomichev
seemed to enjoy at least a little bit. Though I now suspect that the
game is a very big security hole!

I suppose I'll join after I grok the rules.
