KOREA POLICY INSTITUTE ANNUAL WALKATHON COMING UP

Bay Bridge 2013

Dear all,

On Saturday, November 15, 2015 at Noon we will once again be hiking to
benefit the Korea Policy Institute ( <http://www.kpolicy.org/>
www.kpolicy.org). We will do an 8 mile hike, RAIN OR SHINE.  Last year we
hiked over the new Bay Bridge span.  This year we'll rotate back to the
Golden Gate bridge route - from the Marina Green, over  the GG Bridge and
back!

We will send out another email as we get closer to the date.

In a departure from his five year policy of "strategic patience," or
non-engagement, President Obama reportedly reached out and made a direct
request for the release of Jeffrey Fowl, a U.S. citizen who had been
detained in North Korea for nearly six months. In response to Obama's
requests, North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is said to have personally
ordered Fowles release, earlier this month. It is the first positive
interaction between the U.S. and North Korea in years and it is a direct
result of President Obama's decision to personally engage.  It was timid
step, but one nevertheless in the right direction. There is still time for
the administration to take stock of the failure of its policy of
non-engagement and pursue a wide ranging dialog with Pyongyang to reduce
tensions on the peninsula.  Pyongyang is willing.  KPI will continue to
raise its voice in the media calling upon the Obama administration to engage
in peaceful dialog with North Korea.  Please help us continue to advocate
for a U.S. policy of diplomatic engagement.  Circulate this message to any
of your friends who may be interested in supporting the work of the
institute, which is made possible solely by contributions from individual
community supporters such as you.

If you wish to sponsor us please make your check payable to the "Korea
Policy Institute" and mail it to us at 2960 Hillegass Avenue, Berkeley, CA
94705.

If you wish to gather your own sponsors and join us on the walkathon, let us
know and we will send you detailed instructions on where to meet up.

If you wish to be placed on the email list to receive the latest articles,
policy briefs, interviews, and information on forums sponsored by the
institute, let us know.

Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks for your support.

-Paul
