December Eclipse Festival - First Practice Run Starts at Midnight UTC

Welcome to the mailing list for the December Eclipse Festival of Frequency Measurement. 

The first practice run will begin tonight at midnight UTC, 12 hours after this email is sent, and run for 24 hours. If you are able, please follow the procedure on the experiment page to make and submit a WAV recording during that time. The instructions are also available in Spanish and Portuguese. 

The practice runs have three goals:

(1) To confirm that the data collection procedure is effective and easy to follow. 

(2) To obtain files which can be used to test analysis scripts. 

(3) To help individual volunteers make sure that their stations are set up properly before the main experiment. 

Practice recordings can start and stop at any time during the data collection period. Running for a full 24 hours is a good way to make sure your radio and computer are up to the task, but a short .WAV recording will still help with goals (1) and (2). If you take a break from Sweepstakes to record and upload a couple of five minute WAV files, for example, that will still be very useful.
