Python support via Pydev?

Hello all,

I'm just beginning to investigate Eclipse and Eclim. The driver for
this is the fact that release 1.50 of Pydev has incorporated the
functionality of the Pydev extensions and has been released as open
source -- see http://pydev.org/

I'm interested in getting python code completion etc. in my editor
(which as it happens is emacs, not vim, but I don't think that's
relevant for this question).

Your website mentions that python support is provided via Rope instead
of Pydev because of Pydev's "downsides". I wonder if the latest Pydev
release addresses its previous shortcomings to make it a viable
alternative.

What would it take to expose Pydev functionality with Eclim? I'm a
complete newbie here, so any pointers and advice you can give will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I noticed the pydev news last week as well (which was a very pleasant
surprise). I intend to take a look at it to see if it is now a better
match for eclim, which I have a feeling it will be. There are a
couple unrelated eclim features I want to finish up first, so it may
be a few weeks before I start working on possible pydev integration.

If you are looking to contribute, there is a developer guide[1], but
currently it only walks through making a basic change to eclim. While
working on pydev support I'll take that opportunity to start
documenting the process of adding support for a new plugin. If you
want to take a crack at the integration yourself, please feel free to
do so and I can answer any questions you have along the way.

Great to hear on both fronts. Thank you very much!
