I was following the Topic tutorial and several problems occurred:

The new topic "Test" is created but not listed. It cannot be searched
either. But it does appear as a link to other topics (the ones
auto-created in edit mode, see below).

The edit topic tutorial shows a wysiwyg editor, but EckoIt has a
single line editor. But that's not the problem. Supposedly you can
enter text, but this is what happens:

A new topic is auto-created for every new word entered, and an X to
delete the word/topic appears.

Duplicates of the same word are auto-deleted as you type. Totally
different from the tutorial and you cannot freely enter text since it
only allows unique words.

Selecting a phrase like "Bob Smith" as the tutorial says is impossible
since all words are separate.

Needless to say, I'm completely confused given how totally different
this is from the tutorial.

Yup, it sure does not sound like the way it is supposed to be running.
I am suspecting there is still something wrong with the install. Can
you do a couple things for me...

1. Send me your log files. There should be some files in a directory
that kind of looks like this:
C:\Users\marcus\.eckoit\log\log0.out
Can you directly send me those log files?

2. Send me the properties file that gets created. It should be in a
similar spot to #1, something like
C:\Users\marcus\.eckoit\application.properties

3. For some reason, the topic page does not seem to be loading all the
javascript and css files needed. Can you use firefox or Chrome, have
the javascript console open and then open the page? Send me any
messages that come out.

4. When you installed using that link I sent you, did anything strange
happen...like did the installer just hang?

On windows, you should be able to ignore the autoplay. As long as the
device gets mounted as a drive and you can navigate to it.

Yes, it will work in linux. You will have to enter a path that the
device gets mounted into the application.properties file from #2.
Enter a line like this
lifeRecorderDirs=/mnt/sd
adjust the path to where your disto mounts usb volumes.

I will try and chat with you online with Google Chat to see if I can
get you further.

Okay, the edit topic problem was confusion about the UI. The edit
buttons appear only when you hover and they are top and bottom of the
tag field. Since the article field is not visible, but the tag field
is, it looks like both edit buttons are for the tag field (the only
one visible).

I mean who would think you would be entering text into a hidden field?
It's still hidden even when you hover and the edit buttons appear.

The tooltips, offering the only distinct clue to what the second edit
button does, only appear if you hover long enough, which I did not do
(moving too fast). Anyways...I guess we know the UI needs redesigning.
This served as a reminder of why :-)

Ryan, I will try to chat with you about the installation issues.
