Hi all,

Al and I might spend a bit of time prototyping the next version of the
UI. I would like some comments on the quick mockup I have done. It can
be found here:
http://ecko-it.couchone.com/test/Next_UI/v2-mock.png

With some of my thoughts here:
http://ecko-it.couchone.com/test/_design/app/index.html#Next_UI

The Dashboard and Timeline views will remain relatively unchanged. It
is the current topic view that gives rise to most confusion. Please
feedback if you think this mockup would address these issues.

Thanks!

Ryan

Although it gives the user unlimited scope, the concept of "Things"
might be a bit daunting for a new user as it has to be explained to
them immediately.

Is there a way we could hide this flexibility from a new user to give
a very limited option of things (the mockup of Topics, Agenda, Idea,
Meeting, People, Projects is a great starting point)?

Perhaps the 'things' could then be listed individually in the top-
level navigation (the bar at the top of the screen), which would
simplify the interface?

This would give a more conventional looking screen: small left-hand
column with a main window on the right-hand side.

Cheers
Al

I've created some wireframes using a service called Mockingbird (I'm
not sure if Internet Explorer is supported by it so you may have to
use Firefox, Chrome or Safari to view them):

Feedback happily accepted.

Just having a look now. Not sure how it handles simultaneous edits, but I might add some more pages.

Thanks for jumping in!

So a couple of things about the mocks (and mockingbird),

- We have hit the limit on pages, so we might have to take screenshots and reuse some of the pages.
- Audio is the highest priority of ecko-it, and the reason for each 'thing' is to provide a topic playlist. So I have added different options for the topic playlist, as examples. There may be a better place to put them, but I just want them to be considered.

Ryan.

If you are running out pages with mockingbird you can try out this wire frame tool.

Ryan, you should be able to add pages now - I hadn't set you as
administrator.

Oh, and ignore my Latin-like spelling of your surname in Mockingbird!

Oh, and ignore my Latin-like spelling of your surname in Mockingbird!

It's a fun and new variant. I will have to practice saying it like that.

Weekends are usually busy with the family, so I will get to adding more mockups this evening.
Also, would love to hear any thoughts from others. Try to think about how you might group your audio/media for your purpose and if the suggested design helps you achieve what you might want to do.

Thanks.

Ryan
