* Atomic Scala eBook Now Available
This is the introductory Scala book I've been working on for the past three
years. It took a lot of work, and I've learned a great deal about eBook
formatting in the process, but I'm quite happy with the results. It looks very
good on many different eBook readers (iBooks on the iPad is my favorite). The
package includes HTML, PDF, ePub (for Nook, iBooks, Kobi, etc.) and mobi (for
Kindle). The free sample includes the first 100 pages in all four formats so
you can make sure it's what you want, and test it out on your reading
device(s).

* Hands-On Java eSeminar Now Downloadable
A multimedia learning experience incorporating more than 15 hours of audio
lectures by Bruce Eckel, synchronized with 500 slides of information. Based on
the 2nd edition of Thinking in Java, also includes the Thinking in C seminar
for beginners. Although I was initially hesitant to reconfigure the course for
modern HTML5 browsers, upon reviewing the material I realized that most of it
is still relevant for today's new Java programmers, so the course continues to
have significant value. To be completely clear: this is the identical content
that was published in 2000, but I still think you'll find it beneficial.
I've also dropped the price from the original 50$ (plus tax, shipping and
handling) for the physical CD, to only 29$ for this electronic distribution.

* Java Posse Roundup, February 24-28 2014, Crested Butte, CO
This will be the eighth year of the Java Posse Roundup conference, which I
organize with the famous Java Posse podcasters. Every year this event just
gets better and better. Note that as Java has reduced its rate of change, we
tend to talk more about JVM technologies, and issues around programming in
general.

* Scala Summit, September 15-19 2014, Crested Butte, CO
The first Scala Summit was a great success. I'm setting the schedule for the
next one early, so everyone can find out about it and put it on their calendars.
As Scala is still young and developing, the first Summit tended to focus
mostly on language issues, and we expect that to continue.
