* Speaking at CodeMash, Jan 10-11, Sandusky OH
I'm returning to the CodeMash conference again this year, to introduce
and manage the Open Spaces at the conference, and to give the "Why I
Love Python" talk I gave as a keynote at the Python conference a
number of years ago (although I'll be mentioning Ruby as well).
But to be totally honest, the real reason I'm going back is the water
slides.

* The RIA Jam, January 14-16, Ann Arbor, MI
Early Bird Deadline is January 4. Bonus: Free FlexBuilder License with
your paid registration.
An Exploration of Rich Internet Application Programming with Bruce
Eckel, James Ward (Adobe), and Josh Holmes (Microsoft).
This is an exploration of different technologies, but feel free to
focus on just one. Beginners through advanced programmers are welcome.
Browser-based technologies have shown extreme limitations in
capabilities, the quality of the resulting user interface, and
consistency across platforms. In addition, Internet latency issues are
intruding more and more on the end user. This Jam explores the
different technologies available for solving these problems and
creating Rich Internet Applications (RIAs), including:
* Adobe Flex
* Microsoft Silverlight
* Sun JavaFX (discussable, but not ready at this time)

James Ward and I will be talking about "Connecting Java with Flex
using Open-Source Blaze" at 6 pm at the SRT Solutions offices. See the
"Location and Lodging" section for directions:

* The Flex-TurboGears Jam, February 18-21, Crested Butte, CO
We will be emphasizing the interaction between Flex and TurboGears,
but feel free to focus on either technology. Beginners through
advanced programmers are welcome.
Combining rich interfaces using Flex with rapid, dynamic server
development using TurboGears. Plus optional skiing in the afternoons.
With:
* Mark Ramm, author of the book "Rapid Web Applications with
TurboGears"
* James Ward, Flex Evangelist for Adobe
* Bruce Eckel
Early Bird Deadline is January 19. Bonus: Free FlexBuilder License
with your paid registration.

* Java Posse Roundup March 4-7, Crested Butte, CO
Early Bird deadline is January 15
The JavaPosse is a very popular podcast dedicated to the Java
Language, delivered by four Java experts: Tor Norbye, Carl Quinn, Dick
Wall and Joe Nuxoll. The JavaPosse is one of the most effective ways
that I keep up on Java news and developments (usually while driving).
You can find out more and get the podcasts here:
http://www.javaposse.com
Last year's innagural conference was a great success, so we're
continuing the tradition of sessions in the morning, optional skiing
in the afternoon, then informal evening time for dinner, discussion,
etc.
This year's theme is "Don't Repeat Yourself."
The conference is limited to 70 attendees, and you'll need to get
lodging ASAP, so don't wait!
