Blessings President Gaji,

Blessings Executive Committee Members,

Although your term as president of Eko Club International (ECI) draws to a close, I want to take this opportunity to thank you, and all the executives of ECI. We value your leadership.Your stewardship of ECI has been characterized by strategic planning and thinking. More importantly, your tireless efforts to increase membership and help grow this organization on the national and international levels is outstanding.

During your tenure we welcomed Eko Club Louisiana chapter into the fold. We are hopeful they will become an asset to ECI.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is our great pleasure to thank you for your dedication and service over the last four years as president.

We wish you the very best in your future endeavors and we look forward to your ongoing contribution to ECI.

I will leave you with a quote by Henry Ford
, "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

"I think that the best training a top manager can be engaged in is management by example. I want to make sure there is no discrepancy between what we say and what we do. If you preach accountability and then promote somebody with bad results, it doesn't work. I personally believe the best training is management by example. Don't believe what I say. Believe what I do."

Below is the message I delivered in Houston this past weekend.

Blessings!!!

Welcome to the 3rd quarterly meeting gathering of Eko Club International. It is great to see so many enthusiastic Honorable men and women here celebrating with the Houston Chapter Women Wing.

I know that many of you have traveled from quite a distance and I'd like to acknowledge our members who have made this long trip to participate in probably the last Quarterly meeting of this administration ahead of our convention. We welcome ECI members from NY. NJ, Philly, Canada, London, Ohio, Louisiana, Detroit, Florida, Delaware Valley, Georgia, Lagosian of Chicago, Maryland/DC, Rhode Island, California, Dallas, Austin, and Houston our gracious host under the leadership of Hon, Ralph Ogunbiyi.

There are moments in time of incredible bravery and heroism. There are moments in history when a few brave men and women stand up to be counted. Yet perhaps they achieve even more through their spirit, courage and determination. “When principles hold fast against huge and overwhelming odds no matter what the outcome, victory is theirs”. These are the spirit these men and women of the current executive have displayed over the 4 years of this administration and I am honored to have served with every one of them.

What people doesn’t get with this our organization is that we collectively and as individual spend our money, sacrifice our time and family life just to give back to the state we all loved and sometimes it is embarrassing to associate one with the pettiness from certain quarters. I firmly believe there should be no room for such in this great organization.

Eko Club International is at a cross road. We even laugh at the premise that there is a connection between organization and happiness. Cynically, we wonder why our own children don’t want to associate themselves with this organization. Please ask yourselves if you are doing everything possible to uplift this organization in your deeds, words and acts?

While it is easy and convenient to blame other people for our individual laxity, the Judge of all judges never misses the mark. We all know what we need to do different from what we have been known to do, and we better start doing it now! "The price of greatness is responsibility", says Winston S. Churchill; “If you want to be president or any officer in this great Organization, realize it's about the people, not about you.  It comes with a great responsibility.

So I implore all the members to ask yourselves… Have you as a member done everything possible to contribute to the betterment of this great organization without been asked and critical of any decision that is made?  Do you bother to ask why a decision is made? "To say you have no choice is to relieve yourself of responsibility", concludes Patrick Ness. Enough said!

We unveil our 10 point agenda 4 years ago and I think it is worthwhile revisiting the promises we made and see where we measure up

  1. We told you that we will complete Dr. Olowopopo’s Clinic….My Honorable Members we have. Not only that we obtained the surveyors report  also we obtained the deed of assignment to the property…Thanks to Hon. Ojo for Championing this endeavor.
  2. We told you that we are going to empower our youths as you can see from the current executive, we have integrated some youth in the decision making process of the organization.
  3. We promised to leverage our expertise to obtain grants. We have tried and we will continue to strive to make this a reality knowing that we do not as organization have specific details of what is required and we have been turn down about 6 times and that is not for lack of trying.
  4. Youth Mentoring. I know we all enjoy the presentation of Dr. Ojo under the tutelage of Dr. Ajaga.
  5. Women Empowerment- I can categorically state  that no decision we made in this organization that does not have women input , ideas and suggestion
  6. We promised to increase our Membership— this administration has accepted 3 new chapters and helps rejuvenate a struggling one.
  7. We have at all times involved the council of presidents in our decision makings.
  8. We have restructured the Board of Directors to reflect what is practiced in Corporate America.
  9. We have put decency back to our goggle group
  10. We have trademark the name of this organization
  11. We have stepped in when needed to amicably resolve conflicts amongst members
  12. We have performed Medical Mission to Lagos…The best ever with the presence of all the  Former Presidents, All the Chairpersons of the BOD, Majority of the Exco and barely all the chapters of ECI were represented.
  13. We are able to revamp and deliver on world class Newsletter “The Communicator” at no cost to the organization under the leadership of Hon. Ralph Ogunbiyi.
  14. We managed our Website at barely any cost to the organization. A well-deserved appreciation to Hon. Olushi who took the role of our webmaster.
  15. Above all we took Convention to a neutral ground to avoid in fighting

I am particularly concerned that, despite our hard work and unrelenting efforts, some members' perception is that our administration has not been able to meet/surpass existing achievements recorded by previous administrations. Here are the facts…It speaks for itself.  With all these we did with grace and class.

Better days of Eko Club International is still ahead of us…Keep your eyes on the price and vote smartly in the next dispensation.  See you in Las Vegas!!!!

Itesiwaju Eko lo je wa logun!!!!

More Blessings,

Hon. Bissy Gaji

ECI President
