I'm going to do Option 4. Jake, I overheard you talking about the same topic to Mr. Douglas the other day (and I was already putting together this idea). Could we work together?

Proposal:
  • Implement a system under which all students will be able to give anonymous feedback on teacher methods and effectiveness
  • Enable student access to information gathered by evaluations that are already being done by adults/staff, such as the Equity Walk (I need to learn more about the different kinds of evaluations and if students already have access to the info or not).

I am going to analyze the music videos and lyrics of male rappers in recent years and the messages they impose on our youth. The videos and lyrics will be graded on the content and extent of violence, sexism, racism, crude language, etc. presented.

Hello Mr. Douglas,

Ben, Tiffany and I will be addressing option 3 in a Powerpoint
presentation as opposed to a written report. We will be discussing the
development of affirmative action throughout history, the arguments
for and against its practice, and we will offer suggestions for
present action (Everything on the green sheet).

I am doing option two: the racial autobiography. I'll talk about how my parents' experiences influenced me, and how the two cultures (American and Peruvian) melded growing up biracial, with a lot of emphasis on my earliest race-related memories, and my opinion of my race now, and how I became comfortable with it.

I'm doing option 1. I'll watch 5 different types of music videos (with
different genres of music) and base the grades I give them on how much
racism, sexism, ext. are included in each video.

Arek and I, and possibly Irene, will be addressing the quality of
teaching at the school and the students' lack of ability to control
it.

So far we've determined we need a way for students to submit feedback
on their teachers in a way that will not only be respected by the
administration, but so that students need not fear consequences from
teachers and/or administrators.

Secondly, we need a new method of evaluation for teachers based of
criteria other than percentage of passing students and adherence to
set standards. While we don't have an alternative yet, we'll be
working on one.
