Ok, before I tell you about this, let me place a disclaimer that I
totally understand that it's meant for families (particularily with
youngish children) as a way to make doing chores fun and reward
children. But seriously, the genius and coolness of this idea is way
past that for me.
Here's the deal:
http://www.chorewars.com
It's set up like roleplaying game. You pick an avatar, list your
strengths in the way of cleaning and it chooses a class for you. Then
the party's dungeon master sets up adventures. Adventures are chores.
So one adventure may be taking out the trash. You name your adventure,
set up how much experience it's worth, how much gold it is worth. What
sort of treasure could be found in this adventure and what monster
(who has the treasure) could be encountered. Even if you don't defeat
the monster, you get exp and the gold for finishing your quest. For
example, Dodge created this:
Bring out Your Dead - 20 XP
between 2 and 4 gold pieces
20% chance of treasure (A Kiss from The Queen)
60% chance of a wandering monster (Weiner Stampede)
Take the weekly items from Garagatopia to the front of Howell Castle
When you do your chore you claim having completed the adventure and
get awarded your exp and gold. There's nothing stopping you from
claiming a chore you didn't actually do excecpt the fact that you
probably live with the Dungeon Master who can tell that your chore
hasn't been done and remove it from your list.
Anyway it probably didn't need this long of a post but I've been
having fun playing with it and I've already got 20xp and 3 gold for
doing the laundry this morning. Woot!
