Subject: Walk The Line On Barleywine
Hi!
Jim Colvard will be doing a more formal announcement, but I thought I’d send you a heads-up. Walk The Line On Barleywine is now accepting entries for the Homebrew Competition – go to www.DunedinBrewersGuild.com and click on the Register Here link next to Homebrew Competition. As always, it’s $6 per entry, and only costs you two of your precious bottles. The competition is December 2-3, and includes a Homebrew Competition, a Barleywine Festival, and a Commercial Competition.
For those of you coming to Sunshine Challenge, I will be collecting entries for WTL there – be sure to see me personally – don’t leave your entries laying around to get mixed up with the SC entries!
Walk The Line – the Homebrew Competition is celebrating it’s 10th competition! We’ve had lots of fun doing it, and we are looking forward to a really nice competition this year – particularly with YOUR entries ![]()
In addition to the Homebrew Competition, we will be doing our fourth Barleywine Festival. I have received shipments from around the world (Italy, Canada, New Zealand, Netherlands, etc.) with barleywines that will be served at the Festival – and these have never been available in the USA before! The Barleywine Festival will be a relatively small tasting (60-80 tickets) with flights of 20 (current plan) different barleywines for each ticket purchased. Tickets and pricing will be announced soon.
Finally, we are ALSO running a Commercial Competition. The barleywines from the Festival, and additional Competition-only entries, will be judged in a BJCP/AHA sanctioned competition.
JUDGING: We will need your help to judge the two separate Homebrew and Commercial Competitions. Currently, we plan to do the Commercial Competition on Friday (2 December), and the Homebrew Competition on Saturday (3 December), followed by the Barleywine Festival Saturday evening. Please email me if you can judge either of these competitions. Judges who sign up prior to the competitions will get priority during the judging.
STYLES: This year, Walk The Line is being limited to the following style categories (for both the Homebrew and Commercial Competitions):
19A – Old Ale
19B – English Barleywine
19C – American Barleywine
21B – Christmas / Winter Warmer
22C – Wood aged versions of any of the above four styles
ONLINE ENTRY: If you have entered any Florida Circuit competition this year (except Sunshine Challenge), you already have an online account set up with Reggie – the online registration system. Use the same First Name, Last Name, and Password that you used previously. If you have forgotten your login information, just enter the email address that you had previously registered with, and Reggie will send you your login info.
Please pass this information along to your club members – and make sure that they know that they can deliver their Homebrew Competition entries to me at Sunshine Challenge. Also, if you know any Commercial brewers in your area (brewpubs, breweries, etc.) who would like to send their award-winning barleywine for the Commercial Competition, please have them contact me – or they can enter online also, and contact me to arrange entry transfer.
Thanks – and feel free to email me with any questions.
