“INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM”: Empowering Engineering Educators to Prepare World-class Engineers

The IUCEE-IGIP* International Engineering Educator Certification Program will be piloted in January 9th , 2015 immediately following ICTIEE 2015. in Bangalore. The Pilot Program is being sponsored by Microsoft, India. The Pilot Program will be delivered by faculty from different universities in the USA and will be coordinated by Dr. Veena Kumar (Professor, University of Maryland University College), ex, Head, Education Technology, IIT Delhi.
Participants of the Pilot Program:
Participation in the Pilot Program will be limited to 30 participants. Two sub-groups of 15 participants each will be created for faculty with 1-3 years of teaching experience, and 4-7 years of teaching experience. The chosen participants will need to be teaching at least one course during the spring semester while attending the program because they will be required to implement the practices and strategies learned in class. In addition, they will need to commit 8-10 hours of study time per week for the program
At the end of the program, successful participants will be awarded a certificate endorsed jointly by IUCEE & IGIP (International Society for Engineering Pedagogy)
Program Delivery: The Engineering Educators Certification Program will be delivered in three phases over six months.
Phase I - The program will start with a residential 4 day face-to-face Orientation Workshop (3 credits).
Phase II – This phase will include a 18 week long online program comprising eight stand alone modules. It is expected that the trainees will attend this phase while teaching their class. The program will have practical strategies/activities which the trainees will implement in their respective classes and record outcomes. (14 credits)
Phase III- will be a 4 day residential Valedictory Workshop (3 credits)
Program Schedule:
· The 20 credit Pilot program will be delivered over a period of six months (January – June, 2015). Each credit will require approximately 12 – 15 hours of instruction and self-study time.
· The Pilot will kick off with the Orientation Workshop that will run from January 9 -12, 2015 at
· The Online components comprising eight short courses will run from Saturday, January 23 to Sunday, June, 2015.
· The program will end with the Valedictory Workshop in June/July 2015 in Pune or Chandigarh.
