Adding Captions / Subtitles to Your Dance Video

I recently updated this video, adding closed captions/subtitle dance instructions.

Normally, we think of closed captions/subtitles as a good way of providing dialogue translations in foreign films and videos. But I believe that adding dance instruction captions/subtitles to a dance video helps viewers learn the dance figures and dances.

If you have created YouTube dance videos, it's fairly easy to add captions/subtitles to your videos using the YouTube subtitle editor.

Editing YouTube dance captions/subtitles doesn't involve the time-consuming process of editing and uploading the actual video itself. You simply create a small text file with dance instructions and timings that coordinate with the movements of dancers in the video and then click 'Done'. Presto! It uploads the text file and attaches it to your video.

Using YouTube's captions/subtitles for dance instructions is much better than embedding subtitles in the video itself as caption subtitles can easily be turned on and off, whereas subtitles embedded in a video are always there.

Other advantages, if you decide to revise the captions/subtitles later, it's easy to update them. If you create a newer version of a video, you can start your captions/subtitles editing by downloading the older version of your subtitles and then uploading the file to your newer version of the video.

To help you quickly master the YouTube subtitle editor, I created a video using my "Royal City Waltz" video as an example.
