Problem: I use dropbox mostly for photoshop files and JPG photos. I have many folders and subfolders with pictures and files. Today I started uploading some of these pictures to instagram, so I first selected a folder and 'saved to device'. This did not show these pictures in my Android Gallery app where I need them to be despite saving them to folders with gallery pictures in them. So I selected individual pictures, used the same process and still they are not showing. I found a workaround online by selecting a single picture, clicking 'export to' then selecting instagram. While this did work, it only works for single pictures and I still can't see them in my gallery.
Right, but can you download them using the iOS Dropbox app? If so, how? This seems like a pretty reasonable thing to want to do. Sometimes people want to edit photos or their phone or do other things with them that can't be done if they're silo'd in Dropbox.
Here's the essence of the problem: I have DropBox Pro installed on an iPhone 5s, iPad Air, MacBook Pro and Windows desktop computer. I do NOT want to clog up my iPhone, iPad and MacBook with files from DropBox. I want to simply upload and then delete them from the mobile devices. I'd like to use automatic Camera Upload but when I delete the photos from my iPhone or iPad I do NOT want them deleted from DropBox...as has happened on numerous occasions (most recently when I exchanged a broken iPhone for a new one and then tried to copy content from one to the other and subsequently delete unwanted photos...on the iPhone, not "unwanted" from my DropBox space). So how do I do a one way sync? Keep in mind that after photos appear in the Camera Upload folder, I MOVE them to a different desired location...and when they're deleted from my iPhone, they are still deleted from the new location!
I was able to clear MANY gigs of space off of my iPad, iPhone, and my MacBook Pro Retina using this feature within the Dropbox App on all devices. After I kept them all opened and made sure all syncs were finished, I deleted an unwanted pic from my camera roll. This kept the pic on my dropbox while it was removed from every device I had it located on. The program worked flawlessly. I then deleted every pic from my devices as I only wanted access to them online since my Macbook or iPhone is almost always with me. Now, I'm completely untethered from my local internal and external storage. Perfect solution for the supply and demand I was needing so desperately.
this doesn't work for me. if I delete photos from my samsung smartphone then they immediately get deleted from the dropbox folder on my pc. I'd like to be able to free up space on my smartphone but keep the photos in Dropbox folder on other devices
Deleting the photo from your Photo Gallery (after it has been uploaded of course) will not delete the copy that was uploaded to Dropbox. The Carousel app (discontinued) had a nice feature that would purge any photos from the gallery that had already been uploaded to Dropbox. It's likely that will be incorporated into the Dropbox client at some point.
Hi I am new to Dropbox & I have downloaded all my photos into my Dropbox on my PC & now I am wanting to delete the photos off my iPhone & iPad what I want to know is will I lose them from my Dropbox on my PC if I delete them off my mobile devices please help
Update: If you download photos from Dropbox, they do appear in the gallery in a folder called "Photos". Now that they're in the Gallery, you can set them as wallpaper the same as normal. You might need to force the media scanner to start before they'll show up in the gallery, this previous question has options for forcing that to run.
Open dropbox view camera uploads press circled arrow of chosen pic, select more, then select open with, choose 'gallery' wait for jpg to open then press your own phone menu button ( in samsung bottom left corner) select set as then proceed for wallpaper or home screen. :)
The next step is that we want to move the photos from the Dropbox folder to our Lightroom library. For this you need to enable auto import and tell Lightroom which folder to watch for new photos. This folder will be the Dropbox Camera Upload folder, which is why you need to have Dropbox installed on your computer.
Were you able to transfer photos from your Dropbox account to Google Photos? Did you face any challenges? Are you considering any alternatives to Dropbox or Google Photos? Let us know in the comment section below, and as always, thanks for reading.
These checks helped us detect a nasty bug early in our rollout. We started to see a high volume of exceptions in our logs that were caused when camera uploads tried to transition photos from DONE to DONE. This made us realize we were uploading some photos multiple times! The root cause was a surprising behavior in WorkManager where unique workers can restart before the previous instance is fully cancelled. No duplicate files were being created because the server rejects them, but the redundant uploads were wasting bandwidth and time. Once we fixed the issue, upload throughput dramatically improved.
If I delete photos from my iPhone that I have uploaded to Dropbox, will they still be available in Dropbox. I have read several threads, some of them say they will, some of them say that If I delete photos (from any device) they will be deleted from Dropbox (or any other cloud based programme). I want to be able to auto upload photos, then delete them from my phone, then when I have time I can organise them into folders/delete any I really don't want to keep when I log into dropbox on my laptop. Hope that makes sense! Thanks in anticipation.
In the Dropbox app, if you enable Camera Uploads, that sends photos that you take to both your iPhone Photos and to Dropbox. These are then two separate locations that are not linked -- you can delete a photo from your iPhone's Photos app (not the Dropbox app) and the photos will remain in Dropbox. You can delete a photo from Dropbox and the photo would remain in your iPhone's Photos app. These are separate and unlinked storage locations.
Thanks for this, so if I select the photos to upload, then upload them to a folder I set up in DB using the method you describe (rather than using their App), then it won't matter if I delete them from my photos folder on my phone or mac, as they should be stored in DB permanently? I have a ton of storage on DB still unused so it would make sense to put them into DB.
On Windows: Windows treats Android phones like any other camera, so when you plug your phone into your computer, Windows will ask you what to do, just as it would if you plugged in your digital camera. You can peruse the actual files in Windows Explorer, have Windows Explorer import all the photos for you, or use another program to import the photos, like the Windows 8 Photo Viewer app.
The Gallery app also lets you upload your photos to your Google Drive, so you can get at them from anywhere. If you install the Google Drive app on your Mac or PC, you can have your photos and other files automatically sync to your computer.
Dropbox is another good option for getting photos off of your phone: Install the Dropbox client on all your computers and devices, and it will sync files in your Dropbox to everything. You can pick and choose the photos you want to upload by installing the free Dropbox app for Android, which is useful if you want to pick and choose which photos you want to get off your phone.
If you have an Android phone, backing up all the data you have is an important task. To be honest, when your phone breaks down, your android device is forced to restart due to a malfunction, or even worse, it's stolen, you could lose data and face a phone replacement, and the financial burden increases.
According to the 3 simple methods for backing up Android to Dropbox provided in this article, you can back up data from Android phones or tablets and computers to the Dropbox cloud. When your Dropbox storage space is insufficient, don't forget to use the online version of CBackup to combine the free space of multiple cloud storage accounts to back up more data, or switch to the CBackup client to back up data to a larger space.
