The ICWJ can help your congregation honor workers this Labor Day Weekend
by lifting up the voices of working families in San Diego County!
Labor in the Pulpits, on the Bimah and in the Minbar
The Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice of San Diego County
presents San Diego County’s eleventh annual Labor in the Pulpits program
Labor Day Weekend: September 4 – September 7, 2009
Labor in the Pulpits, on the Bimah and in the Minbar is a program designed to remind us, as people of faith, of the prophetic connection between faith and work. Workers and their advocates give voice to the struggles that many encounter in the workplace and we are presented with opportunities to act according to the justice teachings of our faith traditions. Labor Day allows us to recommit ourselves to justice in the workplace, the dignity of labor, and the right of all people to fair employment.
The ICWJ staff is ready to work with
you to create a powerful service for Labor Day weekend – or for another
time that may better suit your congregation.
The ICWJ can help by providing one or more of the following:
Speakers for reflections or announcements
· 7-12 minute homily or sermon (clergy, labor leaders or other experts)
· 3-5 minute reflection as a part of the homily or sermon (testimony of workers or organizers)
· 2-3 minute announcement at end of the homily, the end of service or another appropriate time (workers, organizers or volunteers)
Additional materials for a homily, sermon or liturgy
· Faith tradition’s teaching on the rights of workers
· Reflections on appropriate Scriptural teachings
· Litany and prayers
A bulletin message
· Announcement of the program
· Reflection of the celebration of Labor Day
