Greetings,
On April 30th, The City’s Office of Economic & Business Development and Park New Haven will be hosting a public meeting, as suggested by the Aldermanic Board chair, to provide an overview of and respond to questions about the Mobility Study. As previewed in several monthly CMT meetings, the study’s findings and recommendations focus on creating viable alternatives to building new (and increasingly expensive) parking structures in the Hill to Downtown Study area. By improving street conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, improving transit performance and access, and expanding existing programs to reduce parking demand among inbound commuters, the study found significant medium- to long-term potential to avoid millions of dollars in parking construction. In the short-term, developing the second garage at Union Station and remote parking resources will address immediate and short-term needs in ways that preserve more real estate for walkable, mixed-use redevelopment, as envisioned in the Hill to the Downtown Community Plan. This meeting will provide an opportunity for everyone to be in one room for questions and answers with a representative from Nelson\Nygaard, the study’s lead transportation consultant, as well as City and Park New Haven staff, as we begin the transition from study to implementation.
Agenda
The meeting will be held (thank you, Alders) in one of the Aldermanic Meeting Rooms, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and lasting roughly till 7 p.m.
· Matt Nemerson will begin the presentation with a brief overview of the study’s purpose, scope, and outcomes.
· This will be followed by Nelson\Nygaard’s summary of study outcomes, findings, and recommendations.
· Finally, Doug Hausladen of Traffic, Transportation, & Parking will discuss the implementation Action Plan that is being developed to operationalize key study recommendations, and David Panagore from Park New Haven will be present to respond to questions.
· Following the presentation, there will be a question and answer session, moderated by Matt Nemerson.
We are reaching out now, as we know you all have busy schedules. Many of you directly shaped the outcomes of this study, which we hope will help move the Hill to the Downtown vision toward realization. We hope to see you there on the 30th. Attached is a flyer for the event that can be used to spread the word.
Thank you,
