hi guys,
I apologize for writing in English, I am extremely short on time but feel like something needs to be said.
Our current plan is to choose the national team that will represent Turkey at the 2013 European Beach Championships in about 4 weeks. When the selection committee first started planning for this process, people were talking about a complex evaluation system involving a series of detailed selection criteria. We talked for a while about what these criteria might be, then the conversation stopped. Currently, the selection process has stalled. The criteria system has (to my knowledge) not been developed.
It's also not clear how we can select a team in 4 weeks, since we don't have a basis for selection for Istanbul players. Istanbul hasn't been able to hold enough ECBU practices with enough participation for us to know which Istanbul players deserve to be selected. As far as I'm concerned, the most important factor for selection is *how much work people will put in in the next 6 months*. I more or less know the answer to this question for the Ankara candidates, but not for the Istanbul candidates.
I'm going to suggest a solution to this problem. You guys might not like it and that's fine--it's just a suggestion to consider:
Assign Melanie and me as coaches of the team, and let us carry out the selection process. We will have a Skype conference call in the next couple of days to discuss how to make the selection, then announce to everyone when the selection will be made (probably in late February) and what exactly it will be based on.
Again, this is just an offer--you don't have to accept it. If you do accept it though, I think it will make things easier for everybody, solve our organizational issues and ensure that we send a solid, well-prepared Turkish National Team to Spain in June.
Cheers,
Garrett
