Documentation of EDMD

Because the IDX format is rather "lenient" we need better documentation.   Not only will this help the implementers already working with the format, it would also be extremely helpful for anyone new to it.   A great example came out today at the Pro/STEP meeting where I mentioned Mentor is defining internal regions by giving the distance from the bottom of the board to where the region sits.   Apparently there is another method to simply use an internal sublayer name (not 100% sure on this but that is aside the point).   The point is do all vendors needs to build support for both methods into their reading and writing of the .idx files?  If all vendors agree that one of these methods is the "preferred method" then this should be captured in the Pro/STEP documentation and it would be much clearer on how to support these types of objects.
