Once again, thanks for supporting the ZRC regatta.
I have been cringing with embarrassment ever since we awarded the River Cup to SAC when it should have been Selborne! Evidently, there was a "capturing error" as they term it in business and so we made the mistake. I mean, how many times does one have to beat the rest to prove a point! Hats off to Selborne guys for that, and especially for not booing or accosting the SAC guys or us on the spot!
We had relied on Rowett and his systems for a while and so the new regime struggled a bit. We will be much better next year as I have made copious notes on the pitfalls as I saw them.
I have been meaning to send out all the times etc, as well as an apology for the error to all clubs, and am waiting for my coach to forward same to me so I can do this. We will also send to Rowsa for publication on the site.
As I see it, having the ZRC at this time with U14's is unsuitable. Our river cannot cope as the number of lanes is just too restricting as well as quite challenging in the wind. Yet, we want as many as possible to gain regatta experience and given that Buffalo is out for these kids, our U14 regatta is actually essential. The SAC regatta has caused a bit of a problem in that when does one hold this regatta - certainly not the day before another regatta at another venue!
My suggestion would be for us to think of perhaps a combined event, like on a Friday afternoon for U14's and Saturday for all others could be a solution???? It would mean staying over, but it could be done.
