Hi All,
A couple of nice pictures of Elaine and Barry are in today's Star ledger working  in the garden. The Photographer came yesterday morning and was impressed by our crops.
There are a few beans left but things are winding down so Jim has planted a few new rows and will be pulling the last few plants in the area soon. The squash plants are also dying off. I brought several large strange looking squash over to the senior center. There are a couple of ripening medium size pumpkins. I am considering giving one to Mrs XU in the hope that she will bring some pancakes to our next gathering. Hopefully the side yard pumpkins will develop soon. I intend to enter one of the shared garden's tomatoes in the County Fair I will let you know how things work out .Someone showed me some larval stage of bug the other day I am fairly sure it was from the Colorado potato beetle.
See You in the garden!
Tony

Thanks Lois!

ied one of the new locks.  The numbers don't seem much larger but they are black against the silver and the contrast makes them easier to see.I use a 175 reading glass and didn't need them, so most people should be very happy with the results.

See you in the garden

Those are the only locks available at Home Depot, so I got what I could get. David and I are off to the beach this week. See you when we get back!
PS- we harvested about 35 pounds of potatoes out of our garden last week. It was a great year for them!

Hi Tony,

I saw a small rabbit in the asparagus about 8:00 PM, as I was leaving the garden yesterday.

I cornered a large one last week and while it did make it through the fence Paul and I closed the hole. If it was really small it may have passed under one of the gates . If someone sees it they should try to see how it gets out so we can close the gap. I'll take a look around later if I can get down before the rain.
Thank You
See you in the garden !

Daphne and Liti are correct tried it 5 more times different ways it needs to be reset or replaced with the new easier to see locks if possible.
I entered one of the larger tomatoes from the shared garden in the County Fair, while it was one of the plants I donated and planted  a number of people shared in watering it and pulling weeds. So if you want to see our tomato it will be at the vegetable tent toward the right of the entrance, at the fair for the next week.We may win a ribbon!!!! They gave me a ticket to pick it up at the end of the fair I'm sure I won't want it back!!! Will there be a prize this year for our gardens largest tomato? Next year I would like to make a suggestion for contests. Most weed free garden, neatest garden and most decorative garden using plants flowers and natural materials. Incentives work.
Blossom end rot is starting, too much water not enough lime. Splitting is occurring everywhere
tomatoes are rotting on the plants. Bring gloves and an extra plastic bag for rotting tomatoes. Sun scald is everywhere. Take the tomatoes home if the bottom is red and the top yellow try putting them in a bag up side down over night then cut off the yellow parts.
There are still some large tomatoes in the shared garden and some nice red and yellow plum tomatoes in E 21 & G21 be careful twist or cut them off, more will ripen. Jim planted new beans! Mike(Ferris) will have fall crops in soon most of them will be in the brassica family but you could try beans lettuce and a number of other crops to fill the void left by the tomato plants.
See you at the garden! Stay cool! drink liquids! avoid the heat of the day!
Tony
