Hi All,
After the rain it's a perfect day for weeding! Peggy and Marie spent the morning in the Senior Center plot. I did some work near the Rhubarb. The ground today broke up quickly with the hoe so it was less difficult to pull weeds .While it may seem obvious to most of us it is not necessary to water today. Some people have been watering after days of rain .later on when the tomatoes are ripening watering is worse it actually lessens the intensity of the flavor not to mention that wet leaves on weak plants will increase the chance of blight. Remove yellow leaves or the entire limb to prevent it's spread. Strengthen your plants by side dressing, if they appear weak. Strong plants are less likely to develop diseases.
Dave Lois and several others worked on the fence to prevent bunny breakfasts. We need to keep the gate closed, now that it's fixed it should be easier. A number of plots have large squash ready for picking!
See you in the garden.
Tony

On Saturday when I went to the garden to harvest my fabulous swiss chard and green beans the old section gate was unlocked... I also planted the giant sunflowers by the sign in the front of the garden a couple of weeks ago. (Weeded the area too.) Not sure if there's enough sun there but hopefully the flowers will bloom! If they get messy I'll yank them...
