Hi Everyone,
Azoth (Ebbtide 33) responds well going forward,  though when going aft I'm having trouble getting her to turn at all.  It doesn't seem to matter which way I turn the rudder she just goes straight back.  The berth she is in at he moment is subject to tidal action so I'm really nervous about the tide sweeping her bow off the wrong way and not being able to recover without hitting other boats.

My previous boat had an outboard so maneuvering with an inboard is new to me so don't assume I know what I'm doing.   Am I doing it wrong or is this just how the Ebbtides roll?

Cheers
Brent

Hi Brent,
Going astern with any long keeled yacht is not easy. You need to hold the tiller very firmly, or it will snap to full lock. Do not use much power, just go very gently. The best way to learn the characteristics of your boat going astern, is to practice in open water , using a buoy as the target. The type of propeller also makes a big impact. I have a 4 bladed feathering prop, with a very fine pitch astern, this makes backing up a lot easier than a fixed prop.
Regards,
Bill.
