Happy to share the 3-day planning camp 1.0 we just hosted for EB team 2014.
- Excel: Planning Camp 1.0 Agenda
- PPT: Planning Camp 1.0 Slides
- Word: Planning Camp 1.0 Notes to Faci.
- PDF: Strategic Planning Guideline
Actually, this is just one part of the whole planning process. The whole planning process includes:
- Planning Preparation: External Materials Reading; LC Reality Review; Basic Function Introduction
- Planning Camp 1.0: Clarify Mission, Vision, LC goal and strategic projects
- Function Transition and Planning: Function Year Plan; Function Process and Knowledge Transition
- Planning Camp 2.0:Strategic Projects Finalized, Function Plan Presentation and Synergy, LC Year Plan 1.0, EB Team Formation.
As a outgoing LCP, my role is to set the preparation timeline, facilitate the camp 1.o and help track the function transition process of outgoing VP. As for the camp 2.o, the main responsible would be incoming LCP. For more information, you can refer to the beginning and closing part of the slides.
Also, as the facilitator of this camp, I have some suggestions and tips about how to make this camp more successful:
- Set right expectation to the incoming EB team as early as possible. Otherwise, it is not easy to gather all of them for three days.
- For example, I set attending the camp as a obligation when I released the EB application.
- Offer external and internal analysis materials and let them go deep into them before the camp.
- Choose a right place for the camp, somewhere far and quiet. Also, find something that can contribute to the Team Building.
- For example, we book a relative hotel room with the TV which can show slides. Since there is only one room, the whole team slept together. Also, in the afternoon of the day three, we checked out and moved to the lawn of our campus.
- Set a framework especially for a long discussion.
- For example, Strategic Projects is a long discussion about how form LC-level projects to realize LC goal. It is very hard to them to come up with the answer directly. I set a framework for them to go on: LC Goal Bottleneck-Strategies to overcome-Strategic Integration-Projects Formation-HR Allocation.
- Logic thinking is more important than finding a answer, so always help them by challenging their logic.
- Frequently ask questions to help them clarify the logic and accelerate the process.
- For example, when deciding LC goal about how to ensure good member experience, they feel hesitated among NPS, retention rate and leadership position application rate. In this case, I ask them what NPS can reflect and what retention rate reflect. Can NPS reflects what retention rate and Can retention rate reflects NPS? By asking those questions, they gradually clarify the difference and move on to the next one.
That's all for the sharing.

King
