Gradient transition tool

I have gradient drawing and it used to have marker in the center of it
that I could move around to change the gradient transition, direction,
etc. It's no longer on my drawing, how can I get it back?

If I change gradient types it comes back, but if I go back to my
original (vertical) gradient it disappears.

The adjuster is there for the Shade gradient, but not for Horizontal
or Vertical. Change the Gradient from Vertical to Shade then you have
an adjuster. But Vertical is just that - vertical only so no
adjuster. I think that has been the behavior since the adjuster was
added about a year ago.
