Hi Moms,

Do we get to meet sometime soon to talk about the Big Kindergarten?!

Yes, I'm freaking out a little. Alex is the youngest in his class with his Aug 25th bday...

We start kinder on Monday. At landels.. our neighborhood school in Mtn View.

How are the rest of you doing?!

I'm also both a mixture of excited and nervous for the beginning of kindergarten. Our school starts Aug 21. I was curious what backpack and lunchbox people bought? The regular size backpacks seem a little big. For the lunch box, I was considering the yum box? If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them. I looked into the planet box but it's out of my budget And yes, it would be great to do another MNO! My husband is traveling this month. Maybe in September?

We are planning to use plasticware for lunch... like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004S129AQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And will put it in a neoprene (I.e washable) lunch bag.

We tried a planet lunch box based on a recommendation but it's not ideal... it provides a bit too much variety ... seems kids just need one main lunch (sandwich or pasta) with a small side of fruit.
Maybe we will try the planet lunch box again now that Alex is older. I'll ask him.

It's actually an interesting concept... an overpriced lunch box preying on the "best for my child" syndrome... totally not necessary... and not even that ideal, really.

For backpack, we got a handmedown backpack that is smaller than a regular backpack but bigger than a little kids backpack. The tag says it's from "children's place".

Sept MNO sounds great. Maybe we can pick something that works for Michelle since she is farthest...

Hope that helps-
Michele

I just dropped Haddie at her first day of kindergarten😞. I cried but only a little.  I am dreading the school schedule, no Tahoe for 6 days every month, what?! I am excited for her, I think all our kiddos will thrive in school.  Aaron got Hadley a cute backpack at sport basement, not sure the size but seems to fit well.  I did not but anything new for lunch just the same insulated paw patrol bag and tupperware.  September sounds good for a moms night out and I would love a playdate with the kids.  Michelle throw out some dates that might work.
Cheers,
Kate

Glad to hear some of you had a good first day of Kinder. It's hard to believe...Not sure about backpacks--don't think we need them for Darcy's school, as they give us a little folder to shuttle back and forth. Lunch bag is one David got at Costco I think. The thing on my mind now is the school uniform. We have one option, but still waiting on these jumpers I ordered 2 months ago! I have to admit that the uniform eliminates a lot of clothing drama that we have on other days.

Darcy starts on Thursday, which is kinda nice. First day is only until 10:30, second day until 12:30 and then next week we have the full 8-2. For us, I think it's less of a transition, since she's attending the same school as last year, with some of the same kids, plus teachers she knows and then the same schedule. Still, I'm sure I'll feel emotional about the milestone.

Interested in both a playdate and MNO. Filled out the poll online, thanks for setting up, Michele.

Good luck to everyone on the rest of the week!
Jessie

I haven't tried these but a friend recommended these lunchboxes:

Thank you for sharing!

I packed so much food for Alex one day last week that he couldn't carry it all... snack tupperware, water thermos, aseptic (box) milk, lunch box, fruit tupperware...  poor guy.

The next day I tried the planet lunch box again. Alex liked it.

Ok... let's get together soon.

Hope the first week of kindergarten went well for the little ones (and not too traumatic for the mommies!).
The girls have been bringing and/or buying lunch throughout preschool. The one thing I discovered is that bento boxes didn't work well with them. Too many choices and all they would eat were the crackers and fruit. I now do one container of a "meal": sandwich, pasta, etc. And one container of fruit. Then they have to eat an actual lunch and are not snacking.

Then  there are days when I am exhausted and can barely get myself dressed so I just order lunches. That way everyone wins :)

Excited we are going to nail down an MNO! Hope to see you all soon.

Michelle
