Hi Moms,

I just wanted to pass along a suggestion my coworker shared.

He said that his kids discovered a book series called 'Help Me Be Good' by Joy Berry. Each book covers a topic like 'cheating' or 'stealing' or 'lying' or 'throwing tantrums'.

The funny thing is that Alex really likes the books, too. It took me a little bit to warm up to the series but my coworker said that he reads the books with his kids and they look at the pictures and pick out the animal commentary that is on each page.... Alex keeps asking for them and I can see the ideas sinking into his little head.

There's a book on 'being wasteful' and I like that it succinctly defines being wasteful and gives examples. Now I can reference it in real life --- don't be wasteful like so-and-so was with the shampoo...

Anyways, my coworker just checks them out from the library. If you do decide to buy, you can find them on EBay for about $2 per book of a 29 book series. My coworker prefers the 1988 original edition. He doesn't like the updated version's pictures as much.

Here's a sample of the preferred version:

Alex is sick this weekend. He hasn't had a fever like this in a while. I was up all night last night giving him Tylenol and comforting him. Funny how quickly they go back to being baby like. But he's on the mend now, thank goodness. But when he was miserable, he kept asking me to read him these Joy Berry books.

And just to be clear, I was annoyed of the preachiness when I read the first book. But now I'm more patient because I know that he likes them and is trying to understand them.

Hope you all are doing great!!
Michele

Thanks Michele, I'll check them out.

I have to ask again, which diono car seat do you moms that have one recommend?  Does it convert to the next appropriate size, booster?

Thanks,
Hope to order this time before my mush brain forgets :)

We have the Diono Radian R120 and have been really happy with it. It goes up to a booster.

Hi kate-

No problem-- here's my input.

I have the Radian R120 Shadow:

Yes, it converts to a booster and is weight compatible up to 120 lbs. My friend has her 8 year old and 9 year old still in their Diono with the 5-point harness. I'll probably do the same since the kids can buckle themselves in then.

My friend has the radian RXT which is the same but has wings around the head. She says that her kids like to sleep against the wing flaps. Alex prefers to be more open and I read that the flaps may interfere with shoulders on tall kids so I went with the non-wings (r120).

Between the storm (fleece) and shadow (nylon), we prefer the shadow. My friend had 1 of each and the fleece definitely started looking old, worn, and tattered over time. If you do research, one of the materials had less fire retardant in it but I can't remember which. I still prefer the shadow.

The Diono needs a foam cushion accessory to go rear facing. And it also takes up a lot of space rear facing such that the front seat can't recline as much. Once you go forward facing this isn't a problem.

I, personally don't think the r120 is good for kids under 1 year or under 1 1/2 years because it has no side protection. So I have Anna (11 months) in a britax rear facing and will transition her to the Diono when her neck seems a bit stronger, maybe around age 2.

The Diono has a steel frame which makes it more sturdy but also makes it heavy. It's not a car seat to travel with on the airplane.

And the Diono is known for having a narrow profile. So you could fit two Diono car seats in the back row and still have space for a passenger in the middle.

And I often see the Diono on sale. If you wait a little bit, somebody always has a sale.

Hope that helps-

FYI - some moms have been talking about carseats in my neighborhood:

We LOVE our Clek Foonf. Amazing safety features, and the material is really light and breathable. We've had it for over a year and the fabric still looks brand new. Auren (2) is small for his age, but is still very comfortable rear-facing, and it will continue to grow with him for sure. When we bought it at Buy Buy Baby, Clek wasn't excluded on their coupon, so we ended up getting a pretty decent discount (not sure if this is still the case).

It is quite heavy, so it's great if it will live in one car with infrequent transferring. If you need something that is easy to transport through airports or between cars, it might be inconvenient.
