Well, it appears that we should probably have a 20 year reunion,
Carole Smith has some great ideas:

Emerald Downs
Varsity Grill (the old Jillians') where we held the 10 year.
There are a couple places on 6th Ave in Tacoma that might work too.
There's Seattle and Puyallup to consider and yes, even someplace in
Eatonville?

Classmates only Friday night get together
Saturday night with spouses/significant others

All ideas at this point - I think we should shoot for somewhere in
Eatonville (think Romy & Michelle). What about having a dance at the
gym - just like we had in school, with the big video screens and the
fake smoke and everything? That's what you always see in the
movies!! hee hee! Or maybe at the Eagles Lodge? The downfall of
having it at the school is no alcohol, but I am not sure where we can
go AND drink AND dance (I'm kinda stuck on that) that is big enough.

I will call the Eatonville Chamber of Commerce and see if they can
give me some suggestions, as well as call the school and see if they
would even let us go there. Will post my results here.

Talk to you soon - start compiling email addresses or other contact
info. I don't have an annual, so that part might be up to someone
else.

Terry,
Last year everyone was moved out of the high school and put in
portables at the Middle school. The school is going through major
reconstruction. It doesn't even have interior walls. :) Last year I
was able to give the last tour of the empty school to a class reunion.
It was bitter sweet. Anyway, it won't be finished until approximately
2010. As far as your concern that we have a place that allows alcohol,
I certainly hope that there aren't that many alcoholics in our class
that we MUST have drinks in order for people to get together. I am
looking forward to the plans of the reunion, however, if it is held
somewhere other than Eatonville, I will not attend. If you need any
assistance, please let me know and I will do what I can.
Take Care

Terry,
The Ram was good last time for the classmate get together, and if we
were to do something in Eatonville, the best bets are the Eagle's or
the community center. The high school is under renovation as Trish
said. The community center is expensive to rent. The Eagle's would be
more than accomodating and would most likely bring in a band and all
that good stuff. I'm sure we could do the 80's smoke and all that. They
usually don't charge, as they make it up in liquor sales and food for
events like that. I can check if you want me to. So there you go,
drinking and dancing.
That's my idea, I'm looking forward to what ever is decided and
looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Take Care,
Bob.

Also forgot to mention the Lions club, nicer building, not sure what
it costs.

As one of the alcoholics weighing in, I agree that somewhere we can
drink would be preferred. I would consider hosting the Friday night
casual event at my place, but would need at least two months to plan
everything. As for the Saturday night event, I agree that a full-
service venue would be better. However, I would nix Varsity Grill... I
have not very good experiences there and parking is a bitch. I think
it would be cool if we could book something in Eatonville, but the
choices are really limited.

Hi Bob - these are both great ideas (the Eagle's Hall or the Lion's).
It would be a great help if you could call both and see what dates
they have available and what kind of fees they charge. Thanks!

Chris - LOVE the idea of a pre-func-func at your place!

Now that we have the basics at least outlined, how do we go about
tracking everyone down?

With Trish's offer of help, and maybe some others pitching in, I think
that the pre-func at my place will be very doable. I will cover the
valet, insurance, etcetera, but as far as booze and food... BYOB and
potluck? My kitchen isn't very caterer friendly and I doubt many
people would appreciate the hippie vegan fare that I'd whip up. I'm
thinking that it shouldn't be classmates only... most "classmates
only" functions end up having a lot of significant others at them and
for people who can't attend the Saturday function for whatever reason,
it gives them the opportunity to introduce their s.o.

I will throw announcements in eatonvillenews.net and the Dispatch to
help find people... I will post this group and whose email address?

Who needs food when there is Black Velvet? Hey ladies I will check on
the Eagles and Lions, sounds like Christines place will be cool. Maybe
we can actually get together and figure some things out in person, I
will gladly buy you all a drink.

i agree, getting together in person sooner rather than later would be
good. i am headed to san diego in the morning (def leppard concert- i
am still stalking joe elliot 20 years later :) ), but will be in
eatonville next weekend and should be around memorial day weekend,
too. terry- are you forsaking civilization for the sticks any time in
the near future?

You guys are awesome!

First - Chris: I can come up pretty much whatever weekend except for
this weekend or Mem Day. So how about the 3rd?

Bob - I LOVE It that you are jumping right in to this! Thanks again
for your help!

Ad ideas to find people: go ahead and put out my email address along
with the group here. It appears that we all get every posting that
hits the group, so we may end up getting a lot of emails. But we can
adjust if we have to. I would also suggest Cragslist (which will have
to be re-posted but can be managed). What about the Tacoma/Seattle
papers? Do they have free listings for reunions?

I "built an event" in Classmates (an online planning party), but so
far no one has responded, so I don't think we can count on that at
all. Other ideas?

5/10 works for me - your place is fine too. I already called Mom and told her she was going to be able to spend some "quality time" with the Grandkids, so the sitter is all lined up!

Can we meet in the morning (say 10 or 11) on Saturday? I've got
Mother's Day functions to fit in, so morning would be best for me. If
not, maybe mid-afternoon (like 3)? thanks...

To all

Since we are trying to get everyone to reunite or have a"reunion". It would be nice to do something that everyone can relate to. All of us have came a long way in our lives in the last 20 years. Some still have the same Friends they had in high school, and others may have not talked to their Friends since graduation. Several may have traveled and lived around the country. Others may still live in the area. They are married, have new Friends, possibly have jobs that they never imagined they would have had in high school. ECT....

Their is one thing we all have in common and that was going to high school together.

I think that it would be a great opportunity for our class mates. To Allow them to contribute in some way, their achievements and the achievements of other class mates while in high school. Also they may help catch us up on the last 20yrs.

Just an idea.

Hey guys~ So cool to see everyone conversing and coming up with ideas.
I too thought about the gym too at one point, so nostalgic huh? Too
bad its under construction~ Anyhow, I think the idea to keep it in
Eatonville would appeal to a lot of people, however coming up with a
venue for the Saturday night reunion is going to prove difficult i
think. there is a place on 6th Avenue called Masa that is really fun
and a great place to hang out. There's an upstairs room with a deck
that might work for us. I kind of know the owner. Just an idea, in
case Eatonville doesnt work out. Ive checked with the event
coordinator at 21 Commerce in Tacoma and have some information if you
want it. Emerald Downs might be a little out of the way and pricey.
But I have info for them as well. The Dispatch and Tribune and
Craigslist are great ideas to contact class members and I think the
Puyallup Herald would be good too. Also there's a myspace group called
Eatonville Grads or something that we can post on too, Im sure.
So, let me know if you need anything. I'm not sure where Christine
lives, or if I can make it out Saturday, but I'd love to come if I
can. Talk to you soon.

Terry is not going to be able to make Saturday morning, so I think we
are probably going to cancel this weekend's meeting at my place. Maybe
the rest of you can meet later in the day?

My place seems to be a good option for the Friday pre-func, especially
if we are planning this for later in the summer (August-ish).

Emerald Downs is a good option and another thought I had was the Vault
in downtown Tacoma. I had a wedding reception there and everything was
excellent, plus there's still convenient parking.

My only issue with Masa would be that parking is so horrific along 6th
on Saturday nights. 21 Commerce is my favorite martini place and
there's pay parking at UW.

Ok, it looks like this weekend isn't going to come together. So how
about we kind of assign responsibilities and just keep going on line
as we have been. My suggestions:

Bob, Carole and Julie - you guys work on the venue. Check out the
places that have been suggested, being sure to look in to parking/
accessability, fees, entertainment availability (ie would the venue be
able to procure/provide a dj or band), food/drink availability (ie one
fee for a buffet <just and idea> and a bar, or meals seperately and a
no-host bar or...) and especially the dates available.

Chris, Trish and me - work on finding people. Placing ads, starting a
database of mailing and email addresses as well as phone numbers.
Tasks: a) put together a list to work from b) maintain the database c)
place ads. Need to determine a budget - do we want to spend any money
on this or just stick with free ideas, like cragslist, myspace etc.

These are totally suggestions and if anyone has a different/better
idea, throw it in the pot!

Once we have "divided in to teams" each team can communicate
independently of this google group and then just plug in here every
now and then to keep the rest of us in the loop.

What do you think?

Hi again!
Christine~ You're right about 6th avenue and parking being a nightmare
however, there is valet for Masa and right now its $5.00. They may be
willing to work out a deal if we needed.
I had a crazy thought and please tell me if this is just out of the
question.

So ok, since Christine is nice enough to offer her place, what if we
held the Saturday night event ("the reunion") at her house, and have
the Friday night casual (if we decide on two nights) at The Ram like
last time? We could charge classmemebers whatever it is we think is
reasonable, and use that money for ads, catering, bar tending, music,
whatever is needed. This way, we avoid paying for a venue, parking
etc....and spend the money on all the important stuff, like food,
drink, more drinks, did I mention drinks? LOL...Im thinking since she
is opening her home to us Friday, it'd pretty much be the same
idea...I havent seen Christine's place, but we could set up a DJ or if
someone knows anyone who is willing to do the music that would work
too. Depending on what time we decide on, we could have something fun
set up outside?. Anyhow, again, its just a thought. I've started
chekcing venues and have some info. I know that there are a ton of
classes holding their reunions this year at the Vault...if we are
thinking of using them, we need to get our spot reserved soon.
So, lets try and get together..we could meet for coffee one day, or
have lunch someplace and talk over our thoughts. Im onboard with
splitting into teams :O)
Talk to you soon.
Go CRUISERS!
C~

I would be fine with that, too... I was just thinking for the casual
event we could hot tub, BBQ, etcetera. But I would be willing to host
the "main event" too. I have had a DJ (and dance floor) in my place
before and it worked out well. To get event insurance, I have to have
two armed guards for every fifty people, and I will have to check into
the insurance requirements for a bartender. My kitchen is small... not
very caterer-friendly, but we could work something out if we decide to
do my place Saturday night. Weather-wise, doing it in late August
would make it better for me logistically and we'd be more assured of
being able to utilize the deck.

I agree, it would save significantly on venue costs and I have plenty
of parking.

Cool, I'll check on the Eatonville venues for the heck of it. When I was
still the Fire Chief the Eagles charged us half of the band to use the hall
for our ball, which was typically $400. They provide the bartender and the
drinks are stiff and cheap. Not sure about the lions club but I will be
there Saturday night so I will find out. I believe it is in the neighborhood
of $500, but we would have to provide the DJ/ band and the booze. If we do
early August, we have the beer garden @ the Art Festival, but it is crowded
and not really suited for anything but drinking. That is about it for
Eatonville.

To All

I was thinking. Why don't we let our class mates determine what type of events we have? Let me explain. While we are contacting our class mates why don't we ask them for money for the event up front. Then let the amount they are willing to give determine what type of event we have. If everyone is cheap and does not want to contribute, we can go with what was suggested before Christine's house, Eagles or Lions. something with a low cost venue. Pot luck table for people to bring their favorite food, and a computer hooked up to a home stereo with the top 100 of the 80's.

If we get a lot of contributions, or find one of our more successful classmates we could do a catered event with live music at a hotel, Vault, Mesa's ect... or anywhere in between.

Let them decide.

Lance~
Hello! How are you? So here is my thought on what you posted. I think
time is of the essence in creating a contact/ address list. It would
be a little time consuming to first get all the addresses and emails
we need, send out invites without having a concrete plan, wait for
money and ideas back from them, decide what kind of funds we have, try
and decide between the committee members what we can afford based on
what we've collected, and then try to find a venue that everyone may
or may not agree on. At the last hour if everyone decides they want to
go someplace outside of Christine's, it will be difficult to find a
venue not already reserved. We have to have a pretty solid plan in
motion when we contact classmates, I think anyway.... or we will
potentially have 100 different ideas and 100 different amounts of
money to keep track of. We will never be able to make everyone happy.
How will we explain our decisions if a few people donate alot and some
not so much and the person who contributes alot, expecting big things,
is dissapointed in what we planned with their LARGER contribution. If
we had started several months ago and had time, the idea is great. I
like the idea of having 80's music, maybe we can have class members
request songs and we can make a reunion CD to be played that
night .Anyhow ~ only my opinion.
I have some ideas for nametags that I think will be awesome, and Ive
been looking online for some ideas too. It'll be a great time no
matter what happens. This I know! :O)

Talk to you all soon.

Hi there google group,
I think I agree with Carol, we should have a pretty solid plan in place before contacting anyone. My husbands class is planning their reunion right now, it was sure nice just to get a notice through the mail, notifying us of the date and time, we just need to worry about showing up. I think we should make it as easy as possible for everyone. No matter what we do, it will just be fun for all of us to get together. 20 years has gone by so fast I can't believe it. Wait until we plane the 40!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Talk to you soon.

Sorry everyone

I was a little too vague in my last email so I have given everyone the wrong impression of what I was trying to say.

First I just want to say that I really don't care which way it is done, I just wanted to make the suggestion as the model for getting more money. The following is successfully used by other reunions.

This is how the model is supposed to work.

Their are 1-2 people that go out ant try to find all the address, emails and phone numbers to all the class mates. As soon as they get the information they pass it to group B. which has 1-2 people who's job is to contact the class mates and collect the money.

Before team B can contact the classmates the committee needs to decide on the venue, decorations, food, entertainment, date and a price and give the information to group B.

So lets say hypothetically that the committee wants to do a catered event at Mesa's. with the venue, food and decorations coming to $30 each, but because of the good food it was a little more expensive so everyone has to buy their own drinks and their was not going to be too much in the way of decorations.

When the decision is made. Team B starts calling/contacting the class mates asking if they want to attend. While talking to them they can ask if they wanted to contribute more than the $30 to go towards additional decorations and open bar or an additional catering item more entertainment etc... What ever the committee decides would be a good improvement that they did not feel comfortable adding to the origional price.

After all is said and done an invitation is sent out to the class mates. See Julie you still get an invitation. Also mentioning any additions to what was discussed by team B

Both systems have their good and bad. I was just trying to give a additional choice

Its ok to hate my idea as long as it is for the right reasons.

Lance

I don't really have anything to add to the discussion, I just thought
I'd come out of lurking to say "Hi". I live in Lacey now, out of our
class the only ones I've kept close contact with have been Clay
Jamerson, Corey VanBuskirk (both living in Eatonville still), and Dan

I have a few email addresses on file already - could everyone send me
either email addresses or snail-mail addresses that they have
collected? I will put them in the data base. Thanks.

Hi guys,
Just had an idea. I know it's not in Eatonville, but maybe we can
consider the Pierce County Fairgrounds. It looks llike they just re-
modeled one of the buildings. It looks like a decent size, they have a
ton of parking, a lot of space inside and outside. Just a thought. Let
me know what you think.

See ya

Hey guys...this is Juli Forbes. I'm really excited for you all cause
we had such a blast at ours last year. Word to the wise, places fill
up quickly. We had our ice breaker at Duke's on Ruston. They have a
banquet room and a nice deck. It worked out perfectly. Food for
those who wanted to eat and plenty of room to mingle, oh and good
drinks! We had our Saturday night at the Tacoma Sheraton. It worked
out very well. Don't wait to work out the details or you will be
looking at a reunion in Oct. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in!
Hope you are all doing well!!!

Later kids~Juli
