Maybe a fool question, I installed jenkins on windows by default, have set no user/password, it worked at first, no need to login. But when launch the 8080 webpage now, it hangs the login page, I've tried some normal user/password combinations, none could pass. Also searched the resolution on website, only find some about linux, no about windows, so need help.jenkins login page
On windows, jenkin version 2.291 you find the password in secret.key in the path C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Jenkins.jenkins. Attached the screenshot please have a look .

I created a new user with "admin" and new password on the installation steps. But after sometime, i wanted to sign in again and that password was showing incorrect, so i used the initial password again to login.
In 2021 after I installed Jenkins on my windows machine the default directory doesn't contain the initial password. (in the first login they give the path). I faced the same issue that mentioned but luckily password on the windows clipboard(Windows logo key+V). The recommendation from me is when your first login changes your user name and password and note down.
Self-service password reset (SSPR) gives users in Microsoft Entra ID the ability to change or reset their password, with no administrator or help desk involvement. Typically, users open a web browser on another device to access the SSPR portal. To improve the experience on computers that run Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 you can enable users to reset their password at the Windows sign-in screen.
If you have problems with using SSPR from the Windows sign-in screen, the Microsoft Entra audit log includes information about the IP address and ClientType where the password reset occurred, as shown in the following example output:
When users reset their password from the sign-in screen of a Windows 11 or 10 device, a low-privilege temporary account called defaultuser1 is created. This account is used to keep the password reset process secure.
The account itself has a randomly generated password, which is validated against an organizations password policy, doesn't show up for device sign-in, and is automatically removed after the user resets their password. Multiple defaultuser profiles may exist but can be safely ignored.
During the password reset, SSPR creates a temporary local user account to connect to When a proxy is configured for user authentication, it may fail with the error "Something went wrong. Please, try again later." This is because the local user account is not authorized to use the authenticated proxy.
The error "Something went wrong" can also occur when anything interrupts connectivity to URL For example, this error can occur when antivirus software runs on the workstation without exclusions for URLs passwordreset.microsoftonline.com, ajax.aspnetcdn.com, and ocsp.digicert.com. Disable this software temporarily to test if the issue is resolved or not.

Every Windows device comes with a built-in local administrator account that you must secure and protect to mitigate any Pass-the-Hash (PtH) and lateral traversal attacks. Many customers have been using our standalone, on-premises Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) product for local administrator password management of their domain joined Windows machines. With Microsoft Entra ID support for Windows LAPS, we're providing a consistent experience for both Microsoft Entra joined and Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices.
LAPS is available to all customers with Microsoft Entra ID Free or higher licenses. Other related features like administrative units, custom roles, Conditional Access, and Intune have other licensing requirements.
Other than the built-in Microsoft Entra roles of Cloud Device Administrator, Intune Administrator, and Global Administrator that are granted device.LocalCredentials.Read.All, you can use Microsoft Entra custom roles or administrative units to authorize local administrator password recovery. For example,
Custom roles must be assigned the microsoft.directory/deviceLocalCredentials/password/read permission to authorize local administrator password recovery. You can create a custom role and grant permissions using the Microsoft Entra admin center, Microsoft Graph API or PowerShell. Once you have created the custom role, you can assign it to users.
You can also create a Microsoft Entra ID administrative unit, add devices, and assign the Cloud Device Administrator role scoped to the administrative unit to authorize local administrator password recovery.
You can also use Microsoft Graph API Get deviceLocalCredentialInfo to recover local administrative password. If you use the Microsoft Graph API, the password returned is in Base64 encoded value that you need to decode before using it.
To list all Windows LAPS enabled devices, you can browse to Identity > Devices > Overview > Local administrator password recovery or use the Microsoft Graph API.
To view audit events, you can browse to Identity > Devices > Overview > Audit logs, then use the Activity filter and search for Update device local administrator password or Recover device local administrator password to view the audit events.
Conditional Access policies can be scoped to the built-in roles like Cloud Device Administrator, Intune Administrator, and Global Administrator to protect access to recover local administrator passwords. You can find an example of a policy that requires multifactor authentication in the article, Common Conditional Access policy: Require MFA for administrators.
The following built-in roles are supported to view metadata about LAPS including the device name, last password rotation, and next password rotation: Global Administrator, Cloud Device Administrator, Intune Administrator, Helpdesk Administrator, Security Reader, Security Administrator, and Global Reader.
Because Windows LAPS can only manage one local admin account on a device at a time, the original account is no longer managed by LAPS policy. If policy has the device back up that account, the new account is backed up and details about the previous account are no longer available from within the Intune admin center or from the Directory that is specified to store the account information.
As you may have heard; Windows LAPS feature is released to Public Preview in the last week of April. It has support for two main scenarios for backing up local administrator password such as storing passwords in Azure AD and Windows Server AD. It also has interoperability with legacy LAPS solution. This article on the other hand; will focus on native cloud deployment for Windows 10/11 clients that does not have legacy LAPS client installed, managed through Intune and either Hybrid Azure AD Joined or Azure AD Joined.
Enabling Local administrator password settings in tenant level can be done in Azure AD portal, Devices node, Device settings view. Option to enable Azure AD Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) will be available for configuration.
First option will be selecting platform for the policy, and the second option will be policy type itself. As you notice, there are different account protection policy options such as Local User Group Membership or Account Protection as well as Local Admin Password Solution (Windows LAPS). Selecting Local admin password solution (Windows LAPS) from profile list will start policy creation wizard.
Only additional setting to configure will be Password Age Days when Azure AD selected as the directory service for backing up the local administrator password. Password Age Days option defaults to 30 days unless it is configured and it is possible to configure this option between 7 days & 365 days while backing up to Azure AD, and 1 day & 365 days while backing up to Active Directory.
Administrator Account Name: Another setting to configure is the Administrator account name to manage. Policy will use Built-In Administrator SID if not configured. Renaming built-in administrator account will not impact SID monitoring, so you can configure this option to define, if there is another local administrator account present on the endpoint to manage its password.
Password Complexity: Next setting that will require our attention will be Password Complexity. This is where we define how complex local administrator passwords will be on the endpoints. As you can see there are different options to use Large letters, small letters, numbers and special characters in the local administrator password.
Password Length: Another important item to configure is the password length setting which will define the length of local administrator password created based on the complexity requirements defined earlier. It defaults to 14 characters unless defined, and has a minimum of 8 and maximum of 64 character limitation.
Post Authentication Actions: Post Authentication Actions will define what will happen to the password, user or device after logging on with the stored local admin credentials. Password will be reset at a minimum, managed account will be logged off or device will be rebooted after the expiry of grace period to make sure password rotation took place. Fort his configuration I will define my policy to reset the password and logoff the managed account upon expiry of the grace period.
