..The University of Toledo will host a “Community Food Summit” Friday
April 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Dana Conference Center on
the UT Health Science Campus.

Ken Meter, one of the most experienced food system analysts in the US,
will kick off Toledo’s April 15th Community Food Summit, focusing on
opportunities for local economic development and improved health
through a strengthened local food system. Meter’s topic will be
“Local Foods: Building Health, Wealth, Connections and Capacity for
Ohio, ” and will draw on his recently-completed assessment of Ohio’s
food system.

Organized by the University of Toledo Urban Affairs Center and several
partners, the day will include break-out sessions on entrepreneurial
opportunities, local state and national policy, planning and land use,
and health & hunger. “If you grow food, or sell food, or if you eat
food,” said conference organizer Paula Ross, a Research Associate at
the Urban Affairs Center, “this event is for you.”

Phil Cooley, co-owner of Detroit’s ‘Slows Barbecue’, will be the
lunchtime speaker.

Attendees will be invited to become involved in one of several local
food-system projects, and next steps will include a discussion of an
ongoing food council.

The cost for the event is $20 or $5 for students.
