Hi,

Can anyone tell me if SureStream is truly a leased line, or is it based on
DSL? The reason I ask is that I had always assumed that 4Mb/s circuit would
require fibre rather copper, but the tier thingy suggests an easy upgrade to
4Mb/s from 2Mb/s.

Assuming that I want to take this product would the offering be limited to
distance from an exchange, or is any distance from an exchange a
possibility, but prices may vary?

Many thanks,

Hi Kris.

SureStream is based on xDSL through our unbundled exchanges, which is the
same way that have been offering BT Megastream services have for the last 6
years. The main difference is that BT use 2 or 3 pair HDSL on their leased
lines, while on SureStream we are using 2 or 3 pair SHDSL. This gives us an
advantage for the following reasons:

a) SHDSL is more efficient at stuffing 'bits' in copper, so we can provide
faster speeds like 4Mb and soon to be 8Mb.
b) If you loose a copper pair on an HDSL roll out, you loose the entire
service. With SureStream if we loose a pair the service reduces in speed but
is still functional.
c) As we have complete control of the network we can see that single pair
drop and pro-activly inform you of the outage and its progress to
resolution.

Currently you need to be withing around 3Km of the exchange to get the full
4Mb, although very soon that distance will extend to over 4Km, but with a
slightly higher install charge.

If you have any other questions feel free to mail me personally. I'm afraid
I don't check the news groups as often as I should!

Many thanks
