I'm getting really good speeds out of the new number - even if it does
cost me more via C&W (dammit) - but what is disconnecting me? No good
if I have to nursemaid it through 54M of download while I'm watching
England struggle...

Just reverted to the old VPOP because I'm now getting busy from the
new number. Oh well, can't win them all :-(
Still _much_ better than demon though :-)

0845 333 1111 is suffering some network congestion problems - there are
plenty of free lines but sadly your call is not getting to them. :-(
We'll keep you posted with the progress of this problem in this group.

Sure is. StarOffice 4.0 for Linux, if you're interested. I'll get off
this Billy Boy excuse-for-an-OS if it kills me. I do need office
software though, hence...

< snip re line drops and huge downloads >
To save you having to nursemaid your downloads, try getting a download
manager program. At the risk of being sneered at again <g> I use
Bytecatcher Pro for this. Takes over the download and automatically
reconnects etc until it's all done. Furthermore, if the site supports
the resume command ( and many do ) the download will continue from
where it left off - useful if you've got 53Mb already and the
connection goes :-)
Try TuCows for it.
Talking about nursemaids and England's world cup efforts....... :-(((

Hi
Both yesterday and today the line dropped at 06:13 - though I was still
connected to BT!
I was downloading newsgroups and searching the web at the time, so was
definately not idling my time away ;)
Am using the same system as when we used the old number - Rockwell K56
modem, etc, so nothing should be wrong there.
Matt may remember that there were similar probs at first with the 0645
number but they managed to track the problem at easynet's end that time.
Thanks
Angela
