newbie - slow speed

Hi,
I have just joint VeryCD and downloaded EasyMule for Mac. I am using
OSX 10.4. Having searched a file I wish to download just for testing
to see how it works, I found the speed to be very slow. The file I am
downloading is 250MB and after 14 hours I have only downloaded 82%,
the speed has been like a few kB/sec, is this normal? I have also
there were some uploading approx 30MB, is that just a response thing
or is someone extracting data from my computer?
