Protesters in Tamil Nadu burn UN flag

Tamils in Tamil Nadu burn the United Nations flag accusing its top officials, BAN KI MOON, VIJAY NAMBIAR and JOHN HOLMES of being complicit in the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The protesters also accused them of helping Sri Lanka cover-up its war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The protesters demanded that these UN officials also be punished along with Mahinda Rajpakshe for the crime of genocide. They also demanded a referendum for the creation of an independent Tamil Eelam.

Around 800 people got arrested as they tried to march and lay seige on the UN office in Adayar, Chennai. The UN flag was burnt along with pictures of BAN KI MOON. The protest was organised by May 17 Movement and several Tamil activists and political leaders took part in the agitation.
