I've been looking at how to get alerts when rain is nearby whilst my kit is setup outside imaging. I spotted an app on the Google Play Store called Rain Alarm Pro. It looks promising so I've paid for it. I've set it up and done some tests which seem ok. However where I am I've not actually had any rain since setting up ?.
I've had very light rain this morning, but nothing is showing in the app. However I'm wondering if radar would't register light rain. Also today I've had cloud all morning so had this happened overnight I think the guide star would have been lost well before the rain started and I would get an SGPro alert for that.
I have the following automation to alert me from my home rain gauge when it starts raining, and also to tell me when it has stopped. I am unsure how to link the two and extend it. Also the rain stopped alert is not triggering correctly.
What I would like to happen is to get an alert when it starts to rain, and then and alert when the sensor has not changed for the last 15 minutes (ie not rained in the last 15 minutes), but also to extend on that and still get alerts every hour if the rain does not stop.
So an alert to tell me its raining, if an hour later its still raining another alert with the updated total rain fallen, but if there has been no rain sensor update for 15 minutes since the last update tell me it has stopped raining.
The below is as far as I got.
I am using mqtt to hold the rain status, and firing notifications accordingly
to the status. I thought it would still spam while raining but with a short test,
it seems to work, meaning, it only notifies once when it starts to rain, and once
when the rain stops.
I think I can optimize to less automations instead of 4 though, but want to avoid
going into complex templates as well
I took the Hydreon solid state rain sensor RG-11 and configured it with mode #0, the tipping bucket emulation. In this mode the RG-11 outputs pulses of 50 mS per unit. The unit is a bucket size equivalent of either an imperial or metric size. In my case I choose the most sensitive value of 0.001 mm rain per pulse.
The pulses are fed to a nodeMCU V3 running ESPEasy release mega-20211005. There are two applications. One is just counting the pulses with a generic counter and outputs its values as deltas on each minute. The second application is taking the pulses in a 5 second window and if greater zero outputs an alarm flag indicating that it is raining. Both outputs are transmitted via MQTT to my openHAB instance.
For the rain alerting on the first drops of rain, I use the ESPEasy rules system. Rules are short scripts that can be triggered on events or actions. Go to the Rules tab and enter the following script into the editor field of the preselected Rule Set 1:
If you want to use other names for regenerkennung, etc. please adapt this script to your naming conventions. But keep in mind, that e.g. the value regenerkennung must match the task name you assigned in the devices configuration. The name regenalarm is the German word for rain alert and is used for the published topic name to openHAB. This you can choose freely to your own will.

Our ring camera views get wiped out in the rain. Alarm goes off and we view and see nothing but drops on the lens. Makes them virtually useless in light mist to rain. Was wondering if anyone has had any luck with covers or rain-x type sprays. We have no way to place under cover of house due to location and they are under eaves. Photo attached taken during alert.
Rain Alarm is a smart app which can warn you about imminent snow or rain. That doesn't sound too special - there are a host of tools promising to do the same thing - but this one has what it takes to stand out from the crowd.

Whatever version you're using, Rain Alarm displays a repeated animation showing the weather in your area (and can share an animated image, if you want to warn others). Every 30 minutes it checks for rain within a 35KM radius of your location. But you don't have to worry about the details; just close the app and you'll get a warning whenever rain is on the way.
If this isn't enough then you can upgrade to a Pro version, which drops the ads, has customisable settings (update interval, search radius, animation rate) and alarms (time frame, distance, sound, vibration, more). It's yours for around $5.
Rain Alarm is pretty self-explanatory, but worth shouting about all the same! It tracks your location via GPS, and then the map shows areas where there is precipitation. If you see rain heading your way, it's a good excuse for a pit stop or, if your made of tougher stuff than us, stick on your wet weather gear and then you'll be dressed appropriately for when the rain hits. The app grades the wet weather areas using a colour code, light blue being the lightest shower and an angry purple for the most severe downpours. After using it during a week of very unpredictable weather, we found the updates are usually up to date within 8 to 10 minutes.
You'll need to make an in-app purchase to get alarms that warn you of heavy rain approaching with a notification (it can also sync with Android watches for ultimate convenience), but a combination of looking at the clouds and then confirming your suspicions via logging into the app should be fine for most of us...

On Monday, the National Transportation Safety Board suggested a problem might have existed with the instrument landing system, or ILS, when flight 573 landed. NTSB spokeswoman Drucella Anderson said the crew was told the ILS glide slope was in alarm, meaning it may not have been giving correct information. The glide slope indicates the angle of approach to the runway. But the aircraft crew said it was receiving properly.

'What happened is that our status indicator that goes to the tower somehow received a transmission due to heavy rain.
