Job Description:
The Systems Administrator position is responsible for implementation of VDI in Windows 7 and Windows 10 desktop environments. The scope of work to be performed includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:
• Monitor the VDI platform for uptime and take corrective actions to ensure proper functioning;
• Ensure the VDI platform is operating within the design and security specifications established by the FDC and provide recommendations for any corrective actions;
• Ensure the VDI platform is compliant with the FDC policies and processes, and provide written documentation if discrepancies are identified;
• Evaluate new technologies and participate in proof of concepts;
• Work with other FDC team members to ensure project deadlines are met;
• Support the VDI installations and provide Level 2 and Level 3 support to the FDC operations team and end-users;
• Lead efforts to troubleshoot and optimize the VDI environment;
• Coordinate the input of service providers and partners to ensure delivery and support of key systems;
• Develop deployment roll-out strategy for end-points;
• Assist in developing communications for stakeholders and end-users;
• Work with other FDC teams to design and build environments that best deliver the required business functionality to end-users;
• Provide expert recommendations during the planning and testing phases of the VDI pilot and full deployment;
• Develop and perform load testing for the VDI environment and remote sites;
• Identify bandwidth issues and limitations for remote sites;
• Cross-train FDC staff on VDI administration and support, to include the creation of administrator and user guides and the conduction of small training sessions;
• Ensure VDI platform scalability, from the initial 4-site pilot with 400 users to the 60-site production environment with 7,000 users, during the 1-year deployment project;
• Properly identify end-point candidates for VDI implementation, and provide expert recommendations on which end-points to exclude;
• Liaise and partner with FDC teams extensively for the successful transition of developed solutions into the production environment;
• Maintain a strong partnership with internal support teams, implementation partners, and State datacenter staff; and
• Participate in the formal change management process by reviewing change requests, attending change review meetings representing the needs of the VDI environment(s), and other relevant infrastructure, to the change management process.
Required Skills :
The FDC requires the following experience and/or knowledge for this position:
• Experience with VxRail Infrastructure from Dell/EMC or similar infrastructures;
• Experience with VMware desktop and application virtualization in support of shared service and virtualized desktop solutions;
• Experience with virtual imaging, packaging and automated software distribution tools and qualities;
• Experience utilizing vSphere to access enterprise assets;
• Experience creating and provisioning, virtual machines, storage, and networking;
• Experience with Active Directory;
• A minimum of 2 years of experience supporting VMware Horizon VDI in a customer-focused or client-centric environment;
• Experience working in a VMware Horizon 7 environment;
• Experience with Horizon Apps, App Volumes, and User Environment Manager;
• Experience with VMware Horizon Composer Server and User Profile Management Environment;
• Experience with VMware vRealize/vCenter Operations Management Suite;
• Knowledge of VMware storage configuration and networking;
• Knowledge of SCCM;
• Possession of one or more of the following VMware certifications: VMware Certified Professional, VMware Certified Advanced Professional;
• Skills in problem-solving, customer service, verbal and written communication, and process/ compliance documentation;
• Ability to be a self-starter, be flexible and thrive in a complex, diverse work environment;
• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and good time management skills;
• Ability to be proactive, enthusiastic and ambitious; and

Preferred Skills :
The FDC prefers the candidate to have the following experience and/or knowledge for this position:
• 5+ years of supporting VMware Horizon VDI in a customer-focused or client-centric environment;
• Experience with large-scale (more than 5,000 end-point) VDI environments;
• VMware VCP-DTM 2018 certification;
• Experience with VMware Horizon Connector, Blast Extreme protocol, and iGel OS and end-point management software; and
• Experience managing environments with protected data such as medical records or criminal history records.
