So I finally stopped by the new-ish little Spanish takeout place (Old
San Juan Take-Out Plus) on the corner of NE 3rd Street and NE 1st
Avenue tonight (103 NE 3rd Street). What a cool place! Hector, the
owner, told me very interesting stories about when that building was
a
Dairy Queen, and told me the stories he's heard from people who have
come in to see what he's done. It's really cool! And Hector seems
like a cool guy. He's fixed it up, and was working on landscaping
when I stopped by tonight. It definitely looks much better than I
remember that corner looking! Hector told me that while he is Puerto
Rican, he cooks a variety of foods, including Cuban sandwiches, soft-
serve ice cream, and Cuban coffee! They're open from 6:30 am to 5:00
pm Monday - Friday, and 8-4 Saturdays and 9-4 Sundays. The prices
look
pretty reasonable (sandwiches range from $2.99 to $5.50). I haven't
eaten there yet, so I can't speak to how good it tastes, but it looks
awesome! We are planning to check it out this weekend. I'll let you
know.
