Dear East London campaigns group,

The devastating floods in Pakistan are the worst in a generation, with almost 14 million people affected. Oxfam is there, aiming to reach around 900,000 people with vital water, sanitation and hygiene. As part of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Oxfam is raising funds for this vital work. If you have been able to donate or raise funds, thank you.

Millions of pounds have been raised by groups and individuals like yourselves, and even the UK government has been brilliant- the second biggest donor to the Pakistan flood victims after the US, having committed £31 million to the response.

However, did you know that the European Commission has only pledged 10 million Euros? As you know this is completely insufficient, given the scale of the disaster -the United Nations has estimated that a total of $460 million is needed.

We want to put some pressure on the European Commission to increase its funding to match the scale of the need in Pakistan and we need your help.

We would love it if you could get in touch with your MEP or MP as a channel to get the message through.

Every bit of lobbying will make a difference but living in East London your phone call will be especially influential.

If you would like to make a call please get in touch with our political campaigner, Rachael Saunders: rasau...@oxfam.org.uk who can let you know some of the key messages.

Thank you for all you are doing,

Lucy
